Mame Fighter II - My second cab
« on: September 24, 2009, 03:01:29 pm »
Hi everyone, been lurking around the forums for a while so finally signed up. I must say these forums have been a gold mine of info & just wanna say a quick thanks everyone who contributes, keep it up!

Anyway, I started my new mame cab the other day, titled: Mame Fighter II, since its a Street Fighter themed cab & my second build.

Im currently half-way into the build, cut the main pieces and router'd the slots for the t-molding, and finished the control panel today.

Now Im just waiting on the vinyl to be delivered so I can proceed further.

Just wanted to get the ball rolling on documenting this so I'll post some pics when I get home.

Lots more soon.

Ok quick update:

heres the marquee artwork I designed myself:

& here is the almost finished CP:

Just waiting on some decals (Pongo) to be delivered for the joysticks and coin buttons.

The CP includes 2 Happ p360 sticks hooked up to an I-PAC2, just plugged it in the PC to test it and its working perfect!

more soon.

The cab design is quite slim, its just wide at the front due to my monitor being a 23" widescreen.

Here is a quick mock-up of the side art (you can see the shape of the cab):

I'm really digging the side art!
You may want to consider placing the cp at an angle, having it flat like that may not be comfortable.

Unless you got big hands, I wouldn't have those buttons spaced so far apart.  If it works for you, great, but that would be tough for a SF veteran like myself to adjust to.

I really like all the side art. Did you draw that yourself or did you find that somewhere online? Is is vector or bitmap? Etc.

Didnt draw it myself its an image from the sf comics, did all the layout and stuff myself though. The side art is just a quick mock-up at the moment, its a .psd file which is full size but a bit pixelated, plan to vectorize it when I get it printed

Nice!  Widescreen!  It should work great with SFIV!

P.S. - If you need it to work with the I-pac you can find the patch here:

thanks!

speakers are under the marquee, I prefer to have the shelf flat rather than the speakers exposed.

& the cab is fine for me, Ive been playing it all day, it doesnt seem too small at all

I still think the CP is too big, I'd cut 4 inches off the bottom easily but that would cut into the front of the cab...to each his own. I think bezel art would definitely spice it up a lot, just dont clip art it! Maybe the blue select screen globe or something?

Have you considered the staple of street fighter arcade games? The Red, White, Blue buttons? Also, I'm assuming the black buttons under the start button are for coins? Super glue quarters on them, looks great and only costs 50 cents, lol

Looks great. I love SF cabs. One question. Ive been out of the 'Scene" for years now. Is that tekken 3 playing off a console, or Mame? If its mame, how well do the tekken games run? I think my mame romset is .86 or so.

For 3D games on mame I think you have to have at least p4 2.8ghz or higher. I'm upgrading my p4 3.4ghz to a dualcore 2.5ghz.

that's gotta be  a PS1 emulator, look at the title screen......"arcade mode" "option mode" "vs mode"

If you want the arcade version of Tekken 3 there are other emulators that run it better then MAME does.
