My first layout...
« on: September 24, 2009, 12:01:25 am »
I've been chipping away at getting mala figured out and while I've got a long way to go before my cabinet becomes a reality I've been having tons of fun getting the software side of things towards being dialed in.
I've got some work to do with game lists, adding more emus and whatnot but I couldn't wait to try my hands at a layout. I used photoshop elements to make the background, then just placed the image and text fields over the top of it. All of the panels have transparency at 70% so when there are missing snaps etc you just see more of Optimus Prime in the background.

I know Transformers don't quite pertain to video games but I used to watch the cartoon as a kid and still think they're pretty badass. An emu cabinet is the ultimate entertainment "transformer" anyway so I'm tossing around the idea of calling my cab...the Autobot Lounge.

looks pretty cool.  i'd maybe reconsider that font for your game list, it is a little hard to read...but otherwise looks good

True on the font, I wanted something kind of retro-robo but definitely need to find one that's more legible. I'm also not sure about some of the font colors but it's cool for now. I thought about adding maybe adding some custom images to hang out in the foreground but like how it's kind of refined without them.
Thanks for the feedback

Thanks SGT, I was intimidated at first but once you start messing around with stuff it's only a matter of time before it falls into place.
I've been using Photoshop Elements to prep photos for awhile now but never did anything like this with it. I discovered a bunch of features I've never used.
For all of the frames I just used the rectangle tool and then added effects to each one, there are a lot of options as far as that goes and you can tweak them endlessly. Drop shadow, WOWchrome, WOWneon etc.
I paid $100 for the program so it's nice to get some extra usage out of it.
Now I'm on to installing some more emus..then to build the controller >:D
The cabinet will be the crown.

Looks very slick indeed.  Will you be making this available for others to possibly use / manipulate?

I would love to do things like this, but my creative side is non-existent.
