Analog controllers
« on: July 14, 2003, 07:04:59 pm »
Ok fellas,

I've seen some hacks where people have used pc analog flight sticks as analog sticks on thier cps.  I'm actually looking for opinions on using them. Do they work well?  Is it worth the trouble to put one in the cab?

Also, I would like some opinions on analog steering wheels and pedals vs. the other types.

As far as pedals go, I plan on using Analog pedals because you mash the ON/OFF ones anyway so why not use analog?I am at an impass for wheels however.

Can u use analog wheels for the 360 games and adjust how fast the car would turn based on how much you turn the wheel?

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Almost all this depends on what games you like.  I am going to use an analog stick on one of my panels, even though there aren't that many games that use one.  But I think Space Harrier, Afterburner etc. are reason enough.  An analog stick also does very well instead of a Star Wars yoke.  Also, you can use the stick for 'paddle' games.

That said, I don't much like PC sticks - I kept my eye on ebay for AGES but recently picked up a GLOC analog arcade stick.

I would go for analog pedals (I have actually), since as you say you can use them as digital ones too.

I don't think the 360 wheel games play acceptable with a pot-based wheel.  If you can only go for 1 wheel, then I would say a 360 wheel would be better, since you can use these for the ~270deg wheel games too (although not authentically).  Or get a ~270 wheel and use a spinner for 360 wheel games.  Of course if you are a big fan of all driving games, then you'll ideally need both types...

I hacked a wingman pad and was going to use the lil blue analog stick but have since decided against it (getting a trackball!!). It worked well in windows controlling the mouse (joymousev.4.3??) but I have yet to test it on mame games, sorry.
derek
