Front-end for SWP (quiz machine) games?
« on: September 14, 2009, 01:30:30 pm »
I've managed to get hold of some of those great SWP games (quiz machine games like Cluedo and Bullseye) and was wondering if anyone knows of a front-end system for these? I saw a while back a couple of machines on ebay that used a replica system that had the same layout as the itbox and games warehouse quiz machines (ie. with a large central image showing the game, a credit display and windows all around the edge showing all the games on offer, kind of like this:

This front-end could also launch PC apps like internet explorer, emulators or whatever and would display them in those little windows just the same.

Does anyone know of an FE like this that is available for download? I got the games but it'd be neat to build a combination jukebox/quiz machine for my new games room with a fairly authentic software system like this.

Any joy with this? I'd like to make a quiz machine and would be interested in a touchscreen frontend.

For any more who ask, the appropriate FE for this type of software is SimpleTouchFE, though if running proper pub quiz software you will have to do some messing about to make it fully compatible, as the background app 'emulator' they use conflicts slightly with the front-end and sometimes the app/game doesn't kill properly. (Not always, but sometime after 2 or 3 games have been played and quit back to the FE.

If anyone attempts this type of setup and finds a solution to the above problem, please let us know and post it here.

I have been using STFE as my front-end for a long time now with SWP games and don't recall having that problem. But all of mine run through an emulator of sorts.
What do you mean by "proper" software ? (I assume original and not running them via an emulator?)

PERFECT...  is the software pretty simple...  like install the games and then drop a shortcut in a folder?

I haven't played with it in a while but it's very good and easy to use.

HyperSpin 2.0 will have touch enabled controls and preliminary testing shows it works great for games like this.

Does HyperSpin have a skin for touchscreen only machines ?
(navigation buttons and such)

I have a pretty decent .doc list I made up as I was going through them.
(some are marked with an * and I can't recall why I did that)
I ended up with like 174 working titles before I just quit messing with any more.

Shoot me an e-mail and I can send it to ya if you want.

The next version will have built in gestures for scrolling and selecting.  It will look and for the most part behave exactly as HyperSpin, so no navigation buttons.  If you want to move the wheel down you swipe down with your finger, you swipe up the menu goes up, and you touch a game to launch.
