Amiga emulator working my head (WinUAE Loader) - HELP!
« on: September 13, 2009, 09:11:36 pm »
OK. I give up....

I've all but lost my rag with getting Amiga set up on my cab and it's really getting me down. After trying about a billion versions of WinUAE and roms in various formats from various sources, I'm getting really mad - why do some emulators have to be so damn complex?!

I thought I'd finally found the solution with WinUAE Loader, but just when I get things working on my main PC, I copy the necessary stuff over to my arcade's PC and when I try to load WinUAELoader.exe from Windows, I get one of those standard grey app error boxes that reads as follows:

Code: [Select]
WinUAELoader.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialise properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Everything was working OK on my main PC, so what's the story? I can't find any info on this on Google, so does anyone know what this is? There is no FAQ on the home page and the setup info is very sparse. I've got a feeling I'm gonna need a fair bit of help after this...

I don't see why you are banging your head.

Just locate a cheap Xbox (they are about 15 quid) Softmod it, wire it to your CP and locate Amiga Vs. Atari ST.

A fellow like you can make it work.

You might have to get a TV box, but flat screen TVs are getting cheaper every day.

Forget UAE, unless you like writing batch files.  ;)

I actually still HAVE one of my amigas :D

Can you give me a list of all the stuff you got for UAE? Did it work on your regular computer? Did you get a Kickstart ROM and compatible Workbench OS for it? (I recommend WB 3.0 or higher, and running A1200 emulation). Remember that WinUAE needs to be set up properly using the GUI front end for it as well, and some of the options may seem cryptic, esp if you have never owned an Amiga.
--- Yes I AM doing this on purpose, and yes I DO realize it is pissing you off.

---If my computers were cats, my place would look like an old widows house, with half of the cats having obvious health problems

Everything was set up correctly with the associated kickstart roms on my desktop, so the folder containing the emu, kickstarts, .whd's and everything was just copied 'as is' over to my arcade PC. When I double-clicked the loader from the folder to check the settings were still ok, this error message came up.

Is the folder at the same path level as the other machine (IE is it still @ C:\uae\ or similar)?

Anyways, these guys will be able to help you:

http://eab.abime.net/index.php

They know their way around UAE and real amiga hardware, plus they are all britishy too, so you will feel right at home.

OK. I give up....

- why do some emulators have to be so damn complex?!

I

Amiga emulations is complex because there are so many versions of the chips, KickStart, heck even hardware changes that one machine had that another didnt (think xbox 360 with NO hd, yet a game needs HD to run). The Base Amigas had almost no expansion abilities (slot under keyboard for ram, side slot for one expansion bay, most often a HD), yet higher end amigas had card slots, you could upgrade the graphics card, heck even the Processer speed with cards. Some games wouldnt work with extra ram, some wouldnt work with extra floppy drives. Some worked with AGA, some wouldnt, etc...

BUT the worst problem is alot of programers "banged" on the hardware. they found you could add extra sound by turning the floppy light on (ya interference noise so to speak), and other stuff the hardware could do but wasnt designed to do. Hence emulating it has to be PERFECT for it all to work, which is pretty dang tough to do (ask the mame guys).. simple to emulate, hard to emulate perfect.

So Amiga Emu's have to pick chipsets, revisions, models, ram, floppy count, graphic chipset, upgrade CPU's (or other upgrade cards)... etc.. There was no "standard" back then, most games where made to run on the base 500 with the lowest ram and a single floppy, most but not all. Then you get the amiga Roms (adf's or ?) most are hacked.. so I'm sure some of those are maybe a bit wonky too with emulators.

I must agree the Amiga EMU's have me pulling my hair out to alot of the times.. and I did give up on useing front ends to work it. I feel your pain.

I use WinUAE. I think it is pretty easy to setup. I must admit, I was akward at 1st. It is a brilliant emulator though, Takes me back to my teens.

Anyway, Ive never had the WinUAELoader.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialise properly (0xc0000135).
Problem

Still no joy personally. The reason WinUAELoader is the better choice is it mostly uses a 'best config for all' running theory and importantly, allows full control mapping of emulator functions, game controls and no need for batch files or wrapper nonsense. If it weren't for that last issue, I'd make do with another version.

BTW When I refer to complexity of an emulator, I'm talking about user-friendliness. I understand some systems ae more complex to emulate and some may want to emulate different aspects of the platform, but why can't they make a 'middle ground setting from the off and let you choose to alter the rest - that way you keep both kinds of users happy. For example, for PS1 you have ePSXe, which is not immediately 'cabinet-friendly', requires specific tweaking to get even your first game running, and relies on plug-ins to get the most from it. Then you have pSX, which may not have all the fancy tweaks and plug-ins, but will run most things you throw at it as soon as you start using it, without any complex setup procedures.

See where I'm coming from? I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

The problem is that WinUAE does not play games from a launcher window.  Like Mamewah.

To get this working you have to this manually.

That is why I suggested the Xbox route as it is more inline with what you are requesting, and even that is not so perfect.  One would look at the configs in the xbox solution and transfer it to the PC, but this is handled by a large config file written in C.  Not so easy at first glance.

I have everything loaded on the xbox in my cab and it works.  Unfortunately for you there will be a lot of typing involved, unless you just want to play 10 or so games, than the 3000 or so available.

You have some work cut out for you.

I would do some research via google then post your finding on your website.

if you are having problems with this.  it's not the application really causing you problems.  i recently moved files from another system and found many of my files broke now.  this, gameex, nulldc and other stuff giving me issues.

same error it's linked to your install of microsoft .net Framework.  if you manually copied missing .dll's into your windows/system directory this would be the best place to looking into.  it's a big headache to me, i'll probably just reinstall windows and start from scratch.
