  • I want to Build My Own Arcade Controls!!
4 player cab advice needed
« on: February 28, 2002, 06:29:16 am »
 Hey, group!

Am I the only one who misses the old board software? (oww! oww! Just kidding!  ;)

 Anyhow..

I'm going ahead with my MAME cab, and I figure that since I'm selling the idea to the wife as an entertainment item that'll be great when people come over (honest!), it should be a 4-player cab.

So, what I'm looking for are some suggestions of 4 player arcade games that might be decent to use - something that's not got current "quarter-munch" appeal that I won't have to spend a fortune on. (For example, the latest Gauntlet game might cost more than, say, NBA JAM or something like that).

I do want a premade cab rather than building one myself.

Any suggestions? Anyone been to auctions recently and seen some of that type of cab not selling for megabucks?

I want to an auction not long ago and 4-player cabinets were selling for a lot more than you could modify a 2-player for plus a lot of the controls were in bad shape so they'd need replaced anyways. WWF wrestlefest or superstars I can't remember which one come in a 4-player and are usually beat up pretty good so you could get a good price. There were 4 of them last auction I went to so there is no shortage of them.

I bought a 4way cab and kinda wish I didn't.

I didn't get a nice big one (since my wife didn't want it to take up that much room... and the one I wanted was a spider man cab... it was cool).

Anyway, build one your self and add it to a 2 way cab.  Or build your own cabinet 100% if you have the time (lots of plans out there).

but the 4 way is nice when you get people over

I personally think that 2 player cabs modified into 4-player cabs look terrible.

Your best bet is just to find one that doesn't work. Most auctions will have at least one dead or semi dead 4-player machine to be had.

Perhaps older 4 player game cabinets like The Simpsons or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I bought a Gottlieb 4 player game pod, which is just the front section of what I think they call a showcase cabinet for just $50 Aussie, I think that's about $30 US.

I like showcase cabinets. They also look like they would be a lot easier to build than say a Simpsons cabinet. Since you are basically just building a control panel on a stand, and a monitor on a stand.
