How to remove the mame Legal notice?
« on: September 06, 2009, 04:44:28 pm »
Its a real bummer seeing that "Move joystick left right" thing every time I play a game. I've seen it removed before but how? Google turns up nothing.

is it really a big deal? the legal disclaimer only shows up on the first run.

you can get rid of the 2nd screen with the game info using the "skip_gameinfo" switch.. can set it in mame.ini also.

if you set skip_gameinfo 1

you'll only need to deal with the legal disclaimer once per game.. after that it'll load directly into the game.

heck if you're like me you'll wanna set dip switches, check inputs, and run though the service menu the first time you play a game anyway.. so it's not a big deal imo.
Anyone got change for a dollar?

My easiest answer is this. The old versions of mame 32 used to include the options to turn off just about all of the warnings except if something is wrong with a game rom.

I am still using mame32 V 0.95 and was rather teed when it was removed. bad part is that i cant run games made after about 2001.

im sure somebody has a better answer than this though since many people wouldnt want to be stuck on 0.95 forever.

Never noticed that...I guess I'll just remove the second notice.

I'd been wondering about this myself. Just tried a few things and it looks like all that drives that initial OK screen is the existence of a *.cfg file in the CFG folder.

And that file looks pretty simple, just a little XML with the name of the game in the SYSTEM element.

Wouldn't be too big a deal to just generate a CFG file for each one of your roms and then replace the system name with the game rom name.

I may have to dust off some of my perl skills to give that a whirl  :)

I've actually been wanting to investigate compiling Mame for myself.

I really want to change the color used in the admin menus in Mame. Everyone knows that computers back in the 1800's were amber screens, not that fancy new fangled blue color Mame uses  ;)

btw, its a 1000x easier to compile mame now then it was 8 years ago.

So be glad.  Its now an hour long project including downloads...  10 minutes if you already have it... Used to be hours.

There is a sticky in the software forum that explains exactly how to do this.  Very straight forward.  I only used the diff provided to add in the highscore support, but that diff also removes the nag screens.

I'm running an older version of MAME (DOS) 0.36 and the skipgameinfo switch had not been implemented yet.  :(  Also, there are no diff files available for that early of a version.  Unless someone knows something I don't?

If you're wondering:  I'm running it on an ancient Pentium II so needed a super early version of MAME.  0.36 runs perfectly for what I need it to do (vertical 4-way games only).

this reminds me too, if anyone knows where i could still find a proper 0.95 cht file, that would be great.

i actually have it on an old cd, but that part of the cd has a scratch on it.

i cant read that file.

anyway, i havent been able to find one for that version of mame and i am also not sure what version they took out the skipinfo skipdisclaimer and such. i just know it was slightly after 0.95.

also i am going to look at compiling my own version as well because im dying to play metal slug 5 and yup, your also looking at someone whos got 2 boxes of neo geo cartridges.
