Can anybody remember/link this? (Driving cockpit?)
« on: September 02, 2009, 03:33:29 pm »
For some reason I seem to remember a poster here a few years back who built a really detailed, enclosed driving cab.  I remember it using a number of actual car parts, and having nice little details like an overhead dome light inside.

... subwoofer/shakers either under or behind the seat?
... also possibly had a monitor behind the driver to interact with a rear-view mirror?
... I think he painted the exterior a dark green?

I checked the Examples links, most of which are out of date, and none matching what I remember.  I've also gone through several search iterations.  Does anybody remember this and have a link?  I'm thinking about building a small cockpit to eventually put on top of a 3DOF sim platform, and I'd love to refresh my memory of what that guy did.

While I'm at it, has anyone on BYOAC ever built a 2DOF or 3DOF motion simulator?  I just discovered the guys over at x-simulator.de and the noob learning curve is REALLY steep over there.  It's an international site, so there's a great deal of things being lost in various translations over there... not to mention no FAQ area to speak of.

Any help is appreciated!

Never mind, I found it: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=57479.0

Anyone even remotely interested in a driving cab should take a look at this one. Great project.

Not as much as I would be interested in a multimonitor cockpit for flight sims, Star Wars AND racing
Empire had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All Jedi had was a bunch of Muppets

Yeah, that's precisely what I'm working on. (Well... minus the Star Wars. I don't want to buy a yoke on top of everything else I'm planning.)  Aluminum frame, TripleHead2Go, 3 19" widescreen lcds, Logitech g25 wheel, some other neat elements... I decided I'd design and build this part now, so that eventually it will all go on top of a 3DOF motion sim platform...

It's nothing but a Sketchup file at the moment...
