Options for wireless streaming of music?
« on: August 28, 2009, 09:39:15 am »
Looking for some opinions here as to my best option for wirelessly streaming music.

Here is what i am looking for:
My portable touchscreen jukebox gets used outside for parties.  It is windows based and running album player.  Music is played through a Klipsch 4.1 pc speaker system via the wired connection of the soundcard.  I am looking for a way to stream the currently playing music on the jukebox to another area of my home via wifi, bluetooth, whatever.  Do any of you own these wireless music transmitters?  Are they realiable?  I am also concerned about any lag that may occur during the wirelss transmission that would cause my two "music zones" to be out of sync to one another.

The jukebox already has a wireless adapter (remote antenna) with VERY good range.  Can I stream the music via software to another computer in my house and play it though those pc speakers?

Any insight would be helpful.

Airport express and some third party software to make it a normal sound device, but you will get laaaaaaag.

Otherwise get a FM transmitter in there - no lag but rather poor audio. 2.4GHz video senders will mess up your wireless lan, bluetooth is too short range and has lag,  There are some 900MHz solutions for video senders, but again, that's analog so going to get interference

There are also some digital audio links that have minimal lag which would be ok, but they are hard to find among the see of 2.4ghz analog junk.

Haha after reading your post i figured i need one too so this is what i found....

http://www.amphony.com/products/l1500.htm

Better-than-CD-quality wireless
The Model 1500 utilizes advanced uncompressed wireless audio transmission to achieve better than CD quality. The Model 1500 uses 24-bit audio converters and achieves a 100 dB signal-to-noise ratio. Due to the low latency the wireless signal is virtually free of any delay and the wireless speakers will be in perfect sync.

   Transmit any audio signal
The wireless transmitter can connect to virtually any audio equipment. Connect the transmitter directly to amplified speaker outputs of your home-theater receiver to make your rear speakers wireless or connect to the RCA output of your DVD or to the sound card of your computer and stream music into other rooms. With it's volume control the transmitter can adjust to any audio source and offer it's full dynamic range.

Its only priced at $90 and sounds pretty decent...Hope this is what your looking for!!!

Seems like a great solution.  I have also looked around at several similar solutions and have came to the conclusion that they are all just a little more $$$ than I am willing to shell out right now.  This economy is killing me   Anyways, thanks for the input, I've bookmarked your link and hopefully someday will see just how good that system works!

Shame there is no digital input on the sender like there is on their headphones one. But looks to be ideal to push audio across a house, just watch the range - 5.8GHz is even worse then 2.4 at going thru houses.

I don't know if you found a wireless solution yet, but I have a set of speakers just like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-Wireless-Indoor-Outdoor-Speakers-900-mhz_W0QQitemZ370266603300QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item56359bff24&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I have a Rowe CD100 jukebox in my basement.  I have the transmitter wired in to that.  Then I have the two speakers that I take out on the deck.  They can either be plugged in or run on batteries.   I queue up the songs downstairs and can listen anywhere.   The sound is actually pretty good.    You can find the same ones on ebay all the time.  Mine came from Kohls, when we had a 30% of discount.

I was a little hesitant to go  that route due to my past experience with this speaker http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SRS-RF90RK-Wireless-Speaker-Rechargeable/dp/B000092YPY

That speaker is a pile of  :censored:   It was one of the first wireless options available on the market so maybe the tech. has come along.  That aforementioned speaker was extremely quite, had next to no battery life (not a deal breaker), and never picked up a clear reception - even from 10 ft away!  Maybe I'll look into another set of wireless speakers to try out.  Anyone else have any luck with 900 mhz wireless speakers?

I agree on the battery life, but I've gotten good distance on them, and they have been plenty loud.  The only issue I had early on was just setting the input volume correctly.  Other than that they have been great!
