Old Laptop Barcade?
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:17:01 pm »
Hi guys.  I have a friend with a bunch of old laptops that I can have.  When thinking about what to do I thought I might be able to use it as a mame computer.  I took one home but haven't got a power adapter yet.

Would it be able to run MAME?  It is an old IBM ThinkPad; a Pentium II, 96MB of RAM, and 4GB Hard drive.  Win 98 is on it now, but I'd rather put a Linux distro on it for faster booting.  There is no USB but there is a serial port.

Would it be possible to set it up as a MAME cabinet?

you could probably run an older version of mame on there, and be ok playing the classics. i wouldn't expect to be able to play MK3 or anything like that.  is there a PS2 keybaord port on it?  i know alot of older laptops had them..if not, finding a suitable control interface could be challenging.
