Boot Da Beats?
« on: July 12, 2003, 11:20:41 am »
Hey all,

I've been debugging my system... I am experiancing like no sound?  I am going from my Sound card to the TV.  If I turn it all the way up (TV & SoundOUT) i get some beeps.  Then i remembered i need an AMP.  So instead i plugged it into my stereo (It has many inputs) and cranked that too, it is a little better, but not much.  What am i doing wrong here?  Do i need a pre-amp or something?

What kind of sound card is it?  What OS?  just in case it's windows -

Go to your volume control and mute everything then unmute it all.  Make sure the cable you're using is working properly. . . etc.

I used to work for Creative Labs Technical Support, so we'll figure this out.

mixer settings good?  main volume up?  'wave output' volume up?

How is the sound board plugged in to the stereo?  Check and make sure you didn't plug the cable into line-out-#1, and not the line-in, microphone-in, or line-out-#2.

Just to clarify, it's possible to get weak sound coming out the microphone jack, and maybe even the line-in sometimes...   I accidentally plugged something in this way once and got real weak sound.  I was like "what the heck" until I saw the line input I'd plugged the sound board into start smoking.  (was a cheap car stereo with a line-in, and a laptop microphone jack was patched to it.  Stereo didn't like that much.)

I was about to recommend trying the same thing. Make sure you didn't plug into the wrong jack.
