Ultimarc U-Track Problems
« on: August 25, 2009, 04:28:17 pm »
I've just purchased and installed a U-Track trackball... It doesn't seem to work right, spinning left and right the mouse cursor moves smoothly along the X axis. Spinning up the cursor moves rather slowly up, and spinning down the cursor hardly moves at all, kind of jumping up and down.  I would assume this is an issue with the track ball hardware itself?  I'm a rookie at this, what should I do?

i had the exact same problem with my Utrak when i bought it.  i contacted Andy, he had me swap the PCBs inside, as it turns out, one was bad...he quickly shipped me out a new one and i was back up and working in a few days

  • If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

I had the same problem with my HAPP 3" TB.  Turns out I had the power wires connected to the sensor connectors and vise versa. Almost exactly the same behavior.

One axis worked, the other was jumpy and extremely slow.

After switching them , everything works great.

I'm lucky I didn't fry the boards in the TB.

I have replied by email but one possibility is loose screws  on the optical spoked wheels from insufficient tightening on assembly. We have recently introduced a manufacturing change to use threadlock on these screws.

Easy fix to tighten the screws.

No loose screws.  Turns out if I apply a little pressure on the PCB toward the wheel, it works much better.
