Ramp Diverter Coil Problem
« on: August 24, 2009, 12:21:09 am »
I threw this up on rgp earlier but figured why not give it a shot here too.  Here are my posts.

I'm trying to get my new Demo Man 100% and during test there is a
"Ramp diverter is stuck open" error.  I looked under the playfield to
see if it was something obvious, everything looked good but the
associated coil was red hot.  I checked the part number and it read
A-15943-1  The manual says it should be FL-11753-1  Either way I
suspect replacing the coil is in order.  I thought I saw somewhere on
here how to test a coil with a multimeter, maybe I'll try that for the
heck of it.  I figured where that one was wrong (unless some are
interchangeable?) I would cross reference the rest with the manual.
All checked out except the flippers.  Again, I'm fairly new to this, I
don't know if this is even a problem.  The manual is also a little
confusing here as it shares one picture for all 3 flippers but I have
Lower Left- FL-112629
Lower Right- FL-11630
Upper Left- FL-11630

the manual says

Lower Left- FL-11629
Lower Right- FL-11629
Upper Left- FL-11630

I'm assuming the coil for an upper flipper wouldn't be as strong so I
should go ahead and replace that one also.  Thanks for any input.

the only reply said it's probably a switch so I replied

When the game starts the diverter is to the right, which I assume is
closed.  Once the ball goes into play it moves to the left which it
should to hit the cryo claw shot.  I would assume after hitting this
shot the ramp should go back to the closed state so the ball goes back
to the right flipper rather than the cryo claw, this never happens.
As far as switches, there are 2 involved in this shot, one at the
beginning of the ramp, and one at the end, they both seem to be
working,  I'm guessing the coil is heating up because it is holding
this diverter open.  The computer seems to know what shots I hit, for
some reason the message is not making it to the coil?  Or could it be
a wrong/bad coil after all?  As soon as I power down the coil lets go
and the diverter closes.  What switch am I looking for?  Thanks.

Problem solved, replaced a drive transistor and game now seems 100%.
