How to use a PC with a jamma cab?
« on: August 20, 2009, 10:13:13 pm »
I have a working tekken 3 jamma cab, but I'd like to convert it to mame(Not sure if I want to ditch the tekken board or not..). How would I do so? I have a pc ready to go.

You'll also need to address the monitor. You need to find the identifying marks on the circuit board of the monitor, then research it online to find out it's resolution. It should be a standard resolution monitor, and interfacing it with a PC will have to be addressed.

You could use an ArcadeVGA card for simplicity, or something like soft15khz for cost effectiveness.

Search either term here for more info.

How much is jpac?

Click the link Cheffo gave you and then click on Store. Easy eh?

exactly how does it work?

This ones even easier. Just click the link! Amazingly it takes you straight to the JPAC FAQ.

if it matters my tekken board has 2 vga and 1 usb port.

if thats how it connects you dont have a jamma cab; you have a JVS cab.
If you connect with the JAMMA edge connector, follow the links above.

Tekken 3 can use either.

Just to confuse matters even more if it is JVS then you can use a [JVS-PAC] for your controls,

do you have pictures of your set up? I've never seen one dual wired before, you might have a JVS set up with a jamma I/O adapter.

How are you connecting the Tekken 3 board? if its through the jamma edge connector the JPAC will work for your application even if it is using an I/O adapter

You need a JPAC.  the VGA connectors and USB in the tekken 3 board are to hook it up to a JVS cab, yours is JAMMA. You'll also need either soft15k or an AVGA

yes,

the arcade VGA is a ready to go card modified in the bios to operate at 15khz.

the soft 15khz does the same thing except it does so in software AFTER the drivers are loaded.. IE when you first turn the computer on the card will be spitting out regular VGA freqz once windows loads up the cards drivers it switches over to 15kghz.

also 15khz will work with a number of video cards, cards more powerful then what the AVGA is built on.. the arcade VGA is fine for mame as mame makes very little use of the video cards hardware, but if you wanted to play something that required a lot of power 15khz would be the best ... option.

iirc the AVGA sells for roughly 90-100 bucks.. it's main selling point is ease of use.
Anyone got change for a dollar?
