MiniPac fault or something other?
« on: August 18, 2009, 04:06:58 pm »
I've just spent the afternoon setting up my control panel installing the buttons etc for the first time. Booted up and noticed things weren't quite right.

Using the WiniPac software my Player 1 start button only registers when I release the button after the press. I have double checked the connection and it is connected to NO as shown in the Ultimarc pdf the same as all of my other buttons.

Player 1 button 2 (1 switch 2) seems to only register a button press each 2nd press and it also causes a timeout if pressed repeatedly. P1 Button 3 (1 switch 3) works fine unless I press Button 2 and then when I press button 3 again it opens the File menu.

I have double checked my ground connection and actually redid it again just to make sure.

Is there some sort of relation between Button 2 & 3 from what I describe that could be making it trip up somehow? Bit baffled as to why they are playing up as all the others worked like a charm straight off the bat.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated

Just to add, I can see it registers 3 keyboards and 2 mice. I have a keyboard and mouse attached to the computer with the Minipac

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

This one is easy. That's a shifted button. Use Winipac to turn off the shift function if you're not going to use it.

All of the other behaviour is normal as well. Remember that the Mini-PAC is acting like a keyboard. If you press those keys on a keyboard, alt and space, you will see exactly the same behaviour as alt is a windows hotkey.

This will not affect Mame though.

Thanks for confirming that is normal Andy. I wasn't sure if it was just a register the button press type program so wasn't expecting for it to open File menu  :lol  That makes me feel comfortable now that it is as expected.

I dumped my settings file from Mame as I couldn't get Player 1 to register at all, such as Coin and Start. I must have changed something somehow. Seems to be working fine now.

Thanks for the replies

The minipac kicks butt, but those damn shifted keys can be a little annoying (Not even set up in my design as I do not want them).

I have yet to reorder a new minipac (as mine died most likely due to static discharge or similar), wonder if I can convince Andy to give me a discount as his reply to this would be his 1000th post on BYOAC!

(Prolly not, but worth a shot, not like the things cost a lot or anything) :D

--- Yes I AM doing this on purpose, and yes I DO realize it is pissing you off.

If your Mini-PAC has failed we will replace it, no need to buy another one.

If you can send it to us we will take a look. Drop me an email for address details.
