X-Box 360 keyboard converter with I-Pac?
« on: August 18, 2009, 12:46:15 am »
So I bought a MAX Shooter Xbox 360 Keyboard and mouse converter http://www.mayflash.com/maxshooter/max%20xb360/max003.htm

I also have a I-PAC 4 http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html.

I figure the I-Pac is doing nothing except making a normal usb keyboard.

However I am unable to get the Max Shooter to work with it. Max shooter will work with other USB keyboard that I own.

Has anyone out there had any success hooking up you I-Pac control panel with an Xbox 360 keyboard converter to play games on your cab? I am pretty pissed off right now that this does not work.   :badmood:

Pretty sure that's not going to work.

You need hacked controllers to play games on your cab.   :D

You cant usually use a keyboard on consoles to play games. This is why we have console adaptors that convert the keyboard keys into the console gamepad format.

The I-PAC can plug into these adaptors.

which adaptor will work with the I-Pac and xbox360?

I just looked on http://www.ultimarc.com/console.html. It looks like they have an adaptor for every gamming console except the Xbox 360. I thought the Xbox 360 was supposed to be the biggest gamming console out right now?

I’m sorry I thought we lived in America! Down with the establishments! :banghead:

I'm pretty sure the reason Ultimarc (and several other companies for that matter) don't make what your looking for because Microsoft has locked everyone out.

Theoretically, you might be able to buy one of Ultimarc's PS3 adapters and hook it up to one of the PS3->X360 adapters out there, but even if that did work, the weak link in the chain is going to be the PS3->X360 adapter.  You're probably going to get lots of lag.  Again, that's assuming that setup even worked.

Your best (and most cost-effective) bet is to get some hacked X360 controllers and interface them to your I-Pac.

I just recently looked into the same thing -- I wanted to hook the mini-pacs in my 4 player panel to my 360 -- but I'm no good with all the soldering/hacking.  So I'm probably going to stick a Playstation 3 in the pedestal and get a couple of Ultimarc's PS3 adapters.  That way, I can still play Street Fighter 4 and Castle Crashers which is coming out for the PS3 next year.

I thought you had to hack x360 controller directly with the cab buttons? How would hacking a 360 controller work with I-PAC?

I am also confused. I thought the I-PAC nothing more then a USB keyboard that you wire in your own buttons. I wonder why the Max shooter does not work with it.

Yes, connect the hacked controllers to your buttons / joystick

Sorry, that's what I meant.  :embarassed:  The only reason I mentioned interfacing with the encoder was because I was looking to switch from the 360 to other consoles and my computer.

Sorry yes, missed the fact this is the 360, we dont have one for this. Microsoft have banned third-party controllers and encrypted the interface.

Lies!

With the Max Shooter you can use any USB Keyboard as your joystick you can even use a PS2 controller with your xbox360 if you wanted to. Only the I-PAC does not work with it.  :banghead:

not lies, to use that device you must have an official xbox360 controller plugged into it (that's how they get around the M$ encryption)

your best bet is to hack a controler to you cab buttons AND run wires to you ipac for you computer, that way you can play both with the same controls

Ya you’re probably right. I’m not sure if I am even capable of hacking a 360 controller and getting it to work. God could the only option here be any harder…

Thats correct, why would I want to lie about this? With these third-party adaptors you have to manually initialize the controller with a wired MS controller connected to fool the Xbox 360 into using the third-party controller.
This is a hassle and if MS were to ever change their code to add a more frequent check for the MS controller it would not work at all.
But there is no reason this device should not work with the I-PAC. I will get one and test it.

Holly crap I got it to work!

It was not though the USB port on the Max Shooter, It was through the Ps2 port. I had to find a purple USB to PS/2 adaptor – hook that up to the I-PAC cord, maybe because the I-PAC is going out from a PS/2 port .   :dunno

At first I did not think my PS/2 ports on the Max Shooter even worked, nothing I plugged into them would respond, until I really shoved it in hard that It made the connection.

Well thank you gentleman. At least we all learned something here today. That there is another option out there for hooking your X360 to your mame cab instead of having to hack a controller.  8)

so do you have to plug in and unplug the wired x360 controler each time you use the xbox 360 on your cab?

No, wired controller just needs to be plugged into 1 of the Max Shooters USB slots,  I-Pac plugged into the PS/2 slot. On Xbox 360 boot up I am able to use the I-PAC or the Controller as my controls at the same time.

Side note: This also makes it real easy to configure Your I-PAC controls with your XBox controls. There is a button on the Max Shooter that says Set. You click that press one of the buttons on your wired 360 Controller then you Press the button on your I-PAC control panel that you want that button mapped to, simple as that.

Their still is a down side. The Max shooter was only designed to be used as 1 player. There are no options to map player 2 controls on the same Max Shooter.

I noticed the I-PAC has 2 PS/2 ports in the back of it. I was thinking if I bought 2 Max Shooters, had the I-PAC going to the both of them… maybe that would work  :dunno
Any thoughts.

It's cool that you got that setup to work.  How to games play with it?  Is it all pretty responsive?

Regarding the 2 PS/2 ports on the I-Pac -- I imagine one of them is passthrough for a PS/2 keyboard (in case you're using it in ps/2 mode) so the other Max Shooter probably isn't to do any good in that port.
