A new WIIMOTE thread
« on: August 12, 2009, 04:16:57 pm »
I know there's been various threads about the wiimote around here for a while, but I haven't seen any mention of BlueSoleils new Gamii plugin for their bluetooth stack.

http://www.bluesoleil.com/shop/index.asp?topic=Gamii-Mouse-Wiimote

Anyone had any experience with it? The main prob with the wiimote and bluetooth was the pairing. Since it was so manual, it really didn't work well for a cab.

But, from what I'm reading on the Gamii site, it sounds like they got that all ironed out.

For 20pounds for the stack plus another 14 for Gamii, this might be worth a shot.

But I was wondering if anyone had already tried it out

Looks like the Gamii was just released about month ago, so it's pretty new stuff.

neat!  I'm just hoping somebody make the end all, be all arcade "light gun" from the Wiimote.. especially now that MotionPlus added gyros for one to one movement.  You could use the wiimote for all kinds of controls.. Steering, Star Wars yoke.. even whack-a-mole :p

Definitely, There are tons of "wiimote guns" (little plastic jobs that just hold a wiimote) I can get for 4$ at Ross. If this would work, I'll pick a few of them up, steampunkify them and have a pair of dueling pistols for shooting games.

I did turn up one review from 3 days after it's release saying it was garbage, but then that review also said it doesn't support the sensor bar, which the BlueSoliel website specifically says it DOES support. I noticed they're up to version 1.01 though so it may have been that the initial release was rough.

I've read up on people using GLovePie for interfacing the Wii.. but that's probably already been discussed her at BYOAC.. My dad actually gave me a wiimote the other day.. He said he found it in a RV my parents bought!  now I just need a compatible bluetooth dongle to try this out :)

You can download the software for free 15 day trial.   So far I can mimic keyboard strokes in notepad and use it to sense movement.   There is no way of it to be used as a mouse or mimic a mouse which is what is needed for MAME and pc games.  I emailed the company to see what they say. Will keep you posted.  Maybe someone who is code savy can look and see how to make it work.  So currently it maybe a good yoke.

The one million dollar question...

Is it (or will it be) 64-bit compatible?

@vartech

I didn't notice the 15 day trial. Plus I've been out of town, so...

Cool that you tried it. Sucks about the mouse, but that seems to go against what they say on the website, specifically

"Multiple function expansion
BlueSoleil Gamii provides multiple function expansions for you to enjoy full wireless freedom with all your favorite PC games without the hassle of any wires tethering your hands together.
Infrared Laser supported -- Precision control and authentic feeling.
Wii Nunchuk supported -- More options on specific types of games and brings more fun.
Steering wheel function supported -- More racing game playing and adjustable steering sensitivity.
"

That part about the "Infrared laser support" sure sounds like that's talking about the pointer ability.
I noticed in the help there's a check box to "enable IR". Is that checked by default?

I gotta download the demo and play with it.

I thought the same thing I think it is for the media player option for remote control of music in video( my pc does not have IR).  I have emailed the company but I think the language barrier is an issue.  I asked if Gameii can track mouse movements to use as a pc gunf or pc games pick house of the dead and MAME and they referred me to the manual.  I told them it did not mention mouse support, no reply yet.
