Installing Mala tonight. How's the 1.6 beta?
« on: August 11, 2009, 12:35:01 pm »
Should I start with 1.05, or get the 1.6 beta?   How similar are they?  Is 1.6 fairly stable?

thanks!
Gary

I've been running 1.6 beta for a good while now. It does have a few probs from time to time, but it hasn't bothered me because it's running on my workstation for now.

If it crashed like that in a cab, it'd be annoying, but then, a cab wouldn't have all the extra cruft on it that this WS has (plus a cab wouldn't be running word, VMware with 2 vms, outlook, a VPN, SQL server, etc all at the same time either  :)

I'd say go for 1.6

What features do you think I'll miss if I stick with the public 1.05 version?  Has it changed a ton since then?

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be the one to ask on that one. at the point I had my system ready for a front end, I just went with mala 1.6, so I've never run the older versions.

I think the main new thing in the 1.6 version is the new Video engine (for playing game vids). From what I understand, the old video engine had a lot of issues.

But Loadman would know far more about that than I would.

I have been using 1.6 beta for some time now and also used the 1.5 both in dedicated cabs
IMHO 1.6 is far more stable especially if running vids
I would suggest whichever version you use to convert your layout backgrounds to jpg instead of png which helps.

Any links to the 1.6 beta?

Also, is there really a jump from 1.05 to 1.6, or am I missing some versions in between?

Thanks!!!

In my opinion, you want to go with the beta.  Here's the post where Loadman linked to it:
