Would a netbook like the MSI Wind work for a MAME bartop cab?. It has an Atom 1.6 and 2 gig ram adn XP home. it would be nice since it weights next to nothing.

I can play Neogeo games on mine. Games Like Mortal Kombat don't play well.

I have the exact same setup in my netbook as my arcade showcase cabinet. The only difference is I use this on my netbook:
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-SEGA-Saturn-Controller-Gamepad-Joypad-PC-PS3-White_W0QQitemZ280345481573QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Joysticks_Game_Controllers?hash=item4145e49165&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
They go for about $20usd shipped on ebay for example shown in link above. Works great and is recognized in windows as a human HID device.
I also don't have any problems playing MK 1 either and I only have 1gb ram on my Acer Aspire One.

I have a Wind U100 (Atom 220 processor, 1gig ram). Donkey Kong and the like run fine, MK and NBA Jam are laggy. I believe I've made them run smoothly by using an old version of MAME. I'll have to get back to you on that later tonight or tomorrow when I'm back in town.

I tried an old version of mame (0.70) and nba jam te, mk2 both ran perfectly, no stuttering. Depending on the netbook you were to choose, you might need to pick an earlier version of mame to get such games running smoothly. Good luck!
