Arcade Auction location/date in Dallas area?

They will have usually a few cocktails, and operators are less likely to bid on them unless they have a buyer scheduled back home. Likewise, they will have older stuff mixed in with the newer stuff that operators are less likely to bid on since they are interested in the money-makers. However, there will be plenty of sentimental collectors out there too. So chances are they will have some cocktails, but chances are they won't be cheap.

So your best bet for a machine would be an older less popular game that neither an operator nor collector will want really badly. I've heard lots of stand-up driving games fit in this category. You can also find deals on early 90's games since they aren't considered classics, but they aren't big cash cows anymore. Also, slightly older fighters will sell for cheaper since the newer fighters will make more money on a route and collectors generally aren't interested. These often make the best conversions because of larger monitors and expansive control panels (except I personally think Campcom machines are ugly).

I'm pretty sure that sometimes they will auction off non-working machines, but I don't think they accept incomplete machines. So if you do buy a machine be prepared to pay for everything in it - including the parts you don't need.

Yeah, I would like a cocktail cabinet, but I think these are one category overrun by collectors. Still, it doesn't hurt to look...

Well... I like my legs where they are, but I'm not going to pass up the chance at a decent cabinet.

Anyhow, maybe we could at least meet up out there so we don't drive each others prices up. I'm sure there will be enough to go around. & if not they're gonna be back in October.

I actually don't look anything like that now... The mohawk was just a crazy week-end haircut I wore for 4 days before I buzzed it all off. I just like that avatar because it gets your attention.

Well if you wanna know who I am just look for a set of twins selling a Killer Instinct 2 and a Mortal Kombat (both dedicated machines).

I seriously need money, though, so I may not even bid on anything. My main purpose for going is to sell my KI2. Getting a machine for super cheap would be prety cool, though... Especially a 25" machine or a cocktail. *drool*

The cocktail prices were f'n crazy last auction (some over $1000, and not even very nice stuff; but -- that time -- they did all work and had new monitors), don't know if I'd expect much of a deal unless it's on dead row :/.. I got a 25" JAMMA that wouldn't run at the show for $150, though.

Whatever you guys do, just don't go crazy with all the tools who came to buy the big-name barely working junk for their gamerooms and showcase/sit-downs for their bars.. the real deals are had at the end of the day when they get around to the less famous mid-80s 19" stuff and dead/half-stripped machines.

I might not even bother to show up until a couple hours after preview this time.. still plenty of time to look around before they get to anything good + don't have to wait while they go through every gambling machine in the place :X

So, OK, guys.. when you see a hippie-type going for a Baby Pac, Nintendo cab, or a Q*Bert, have pity on him (he is poor)

Agree with kspiff. I've been a regular of the superauctions in dallas, and let me tell you, nothing goes cheap unless it is in the death row. Classics in good condition go for insane prices (but not as high as ebay though). Cocktails are highly sought after by collectors. So the only way to get a good price is to stick around for the later part of the auction, when the auctioneers get tired and they just want to push the stuff out as quickly as possible. The only things that goes for cheap are unpopular conversions. I for example got an almost complete tron with a Master of Weapon (?) board for like 175. And unpopular junk on death row sometimes even goes for free.

You'll learn a lot, but here is a freebie: bring supplies (step ladder, -- if you plan on bidding -- tape measure, flashlight, extension cord, and philips head screwdriver -- battery op if possible -- at the least).

Well it's confirmed. I will be going to the auction for sure. Sounds like there will be a serious turn-out of BYOACer's there this time. Also sounds like we're gonna be possibly bidding on the same stuff. That may be unavoidable. Just make sure you don't outbid a pair of identical twins.

I'm bringing a big ol' U-Haul truck to take a couple games for auction so I'm gonna have the room to leave with stuff, too. Let's hope I don't get carried away...

I don't have much room at my apartment, but I can put a cocktail in the middle of my living room and call it a coffee table.
