What are my chances of running Area 51?
« on: July 10, 2003, 09:05:09 pm »
I have a P3 @ 866MHz... I can't run other CHD games so well from the ones I've tried... What are my chances of playing Area 51? Is it more or less intensive than the others??? I really want that one.

Sorry man...you need more power.  I've got a 1GHz, and, while playable, it's choppy still.

Do you reduce sample rate or cut the frame rate or do you run it full speed?

I can run it on a 733 (although not like the arcade) and I had to cut both the sample rate and frame rate almost 1/2.  It runs pretty smooth on a 2.2 ( with a little tweaking ).

It'll be almost 100% if you turn sound off.

Well I need at least minimal sound... but maybe if I cut the bitrate down to 1/4 and a frame skip of 5 or so... *crosses fingers*

What do you have to lose by trying?  If it doesn't work, you save 700M of HD space, or upgrades are pretty cheap now.
