Looking for a USB and a Headphone Jack
« on: July 28, 2009, 01:50:50 pm »
I'm looking for two plugs. Of course they both need to be surface mountable so when you walk up to my soon to be ever built Jukebox you can use them.

USB surface mountable so I can plug in a USB memory stick or a portable device like my wifes phone or my own. This is the first one I came across that seems to fit the bill. However I'd rather have to female plugs that share one male so I'm not taking up two USB ports on my PC, but I guess I could work around that. http://www.frontx.com/pro/p108_036.html

Headphone jack. However I'm looking for a headphone jack that I can plug in a pair of headphones and it would divert the music from the pc to the headphones basically muting the stereo. Also I think it would be cool if I could wire in a volume knob somewhere inline so I could control the volume while its plugged in since depending on what app I'm running I might not have access to the PC volume control. Remove plug from headphone and have it restore to the direct path of the PC to the AMP.

I'm not sure, but I think bender or somebody else that made a small portable made a headphone jack circuit that would suit my needs, but I just have to search around to find it. Or maybe it was the guy who built the tomatoecade. Ah heck I guess I"m on the search for answers.

Buddy said why not get a pair of headphones with a volume control and call it quits and run a headphone extension from the AMP. I give that a go tonight hahaha

Can you use something like this for the usb ports?

I have 2 of them and they work pretty good and don't look bad mounted either.

Yeah I don't see why not. Thanks for the link. I saw them somewhere else earlier and well misplaced it.

Looks like you just have to run an extension from that plug to the back of the PC. If thats the case those might work pretty well honestly. I guess its just a matter of making sure you order the right plug in for the right side. Are they simply reversable or are they fixed?

Ah reading the data sheet they are reversable which is kinda cool, hower I did notice they are A to B not Male to Female. Its an idea I suppose because I'm sure I have some printer cables laying around that I could use in the B plug in a pinch.  :laugh2:
