Buying a tri-sync monitor in the UK?
« on: July 27, 2009, 10:30:44 am »
Hi everybody, as the topic states, where on earth can I buy a tri-sync monitor in the UK?

I've searched the site (and the web!) and came accross a couple of threads from last year but the links seem out of date or dead - tried the Suzo-Happ website and the UK site also seems dead - I am stuck!

I am currently using a rubbish 20" DIGIMATE tv (bought from Tesco a few years ago) hooked up via ArcadeVGA in my cab running MAME - it does the job of course very well with the ArcadeVGA, the only problem being that the overscan is so large and I cannot find ANY details on accessing any kind of sevice mode on this TV to fix this (I still have a random shot at pressing and holding different buttons every time I switch it on  :'( )

So I need some expert help!  My cab should take a 27" monitor, any suggestions?  I am loathe to import from the U.S. to get pumelled by customs charges and VAT, there must be somewhere in the UK or EU that will supply my needs?  I was so close to biting the bullet and buying a Wells Gardner D9800 from xgaming but some bad reviews have put me off, also the VAT/customs charges I would incur.

Thank you for listening and I look forward to your advice - now off for another game of something where I can't see my bloody score or number of men left    :banghead:

You 'may' be able to get a Sanwa PFX tri sync which are meant to be the dogs. They are 29" but I believe 29" Jap is 27" US/Euro.

I just bought a pair of 27" 15khz monitors and I have been told they will both go straight in my 27" Jamma cab and one of my 29" Naomi candys.

For the PFX try Andy @ [Sega Shed] I believe he had some PFX's a while a go. If he doens't have any I'm sure he will be able to tell you where you can get one or something similar.

Brent Leisure are the UK Wells-Gardner distibutors but they are VERY expensive.

It might even be cheaper to import a Wei-Ya monitor from Taiwan than buy a W-G from Brent Leisure.

Need to be careful here, make sure any tri-sync you buy has on-screen-display. This means it will have memory which stores the settings for each resolution separately.
Otherwise every time you switch resolutions you will need to adjust all the monitor controls.
The Wells models do, such as D9500 etc Hantarex Polo Star does not (unless theres a new model). Wei-Ya some do and some dont.

Cheers for all the help!  Looking at this Rodotron one mentioned, [Link]  I would need to check out the exact measurements to see if it fits in my cab.  Does anyone have anything to say about this model (666A-29PDF), does it have the onscreen controls?

Cheers again all.
