blownsvtlightning's Donkey Kong Restoration
« on: July 26, 2009, 07:31:11 pm »
ok I don't want to hi-jack this thread so I am not sure if I should post these here...  here are the pics of the DK I am about to start a restoration on.  Unit is in good shape, I got it for FREE so I can't complain...   video was out of sync when I got it but go it mostly dialed in..  coin mechanisms and everything else works on it, it just needs some cosmetic TLC...   here are some pics to my Picasa gallery.   my pics aren't the best but you get the idea.

Those pics are great - I finally know why the wood block above the CP (with the long instruction sticker) on my cabinet is bare wood.  I look forward to your progress!

You can order something called "ABS plastic" off of eBay or Amazon for pretty cheap.  Cut it to size and use some contact cement to secure it in place (I used the same material for underneath the control panel overlay rather than painting it black).  I tried painting but after 4 coats of the BINZ primer and 3 top coats I could still see the grain of the wood so I will laminate instead.

But we love pictures!  Even though many have done DK restores, each one has its unique details.  Post pics as you go along (otherwise, why start a restoration thread?) and we can help with any issues you run across - like bondo problems.

My current collection:  Arkanoid^3, Asteroids Deluxe, Centipede, Donkey Kong w/DIIK, Frenzy w/Berzerk multi, Galaga, Galaxian, Gyruss, Mappy,  Missile Command, Multi-Williams, O'Boyles Arcade (Mame), Pac-man,  Sinistar, Star Wars, Tempest, War Gods

+1.  I am almost finished restoring one and I tried reading as many threads/blogs as possible and I STILL wish there were more...

I might do that, I started the restoration thread before I found out the donkey kong was so common.  I even saw a few. "Not another donkey kong restoration" comments in some other threads...  But I will take some pics as I go along and try to get them posted..  I don't have a lot of time at the moment, so it will be a slow process.

Aw, who cares if people make comments like that. Anyone who doesn't want to see another DK restoration doesn't have to click the link. You never know what might end up helping someone else out. And even if not a lot of people post in your thread, there might be a lot of thread lurkers that enjoy watching the progress.

Don't worry about slow progress. I started a thread on my change machine and I don't expect to have much if any time to work on it for a few months at least.

That's true. I lurk on loads of threads that I really enjoy on various forums, but don't post on them.
