X- Arcade trackball help PLEASE
« on: July 23, 2009, 06:34:15 pm »
I'm trying to figure out how to get my trackball to work on my xarcade.  It works fine as a mouse but not with Centipede or any other trackball games.

Any ideas

Vista
Maximus
mame32 0.106.0.0

Thanks

you need to alter your mame.ini file

trackball_device          keyboard               'change this to mouse'

trackball_device          keyboard               'change this to mouse'

ok, sorry to ask for more detail but I'm still a bit confused.

When I open up the ini I see lists like this

mouse           1
joystick          0

etc.

Should I add the word       trackball_device        1

....like this?

It doesn't look like I even have the word keyboard in my list?

Thanks for all of your help

okay quickly downloaded mame32 and if you select properties in a game and goto controller mapping you can change the devices there, i have no idea how to change all trackbalkl games at once though, well not yet anyways  :dizzy:

meh, if you goto options and then default game options, then controller mapping you can assign the default mapping for that device, in the case of trackball select mouse

by selecting properties in a game is that the same as hitting TAB and going into the map of the rom itself?

Or are you talking about going into mame32?

Thanks

sorry kinda screwed up my response, when you go into mame32 you can select the properties of a specific game or set some dafult game options in mame32 both do the same except the dafult option should hopefully change all trackball games to work with the trackball, sorry i cant test this as my cab is in bits at the moment

Yeah, I tried messing with that but no luck.

What's weird is that the trackball works for Marble Madness but not Centipede???

I can't remember the exact settings menus but I think there are 2 different places where you select "Mouse" as a controller. Also check the tab settings to make sure it's looking for Mouse and not keystrokes for the trackball controller.

Which mame version?  (0.134, 0.106, etc)
Mame32 was renamed to mameUI a while back, and older versions of mame/mame32/mameUI had some different issues than current mame.

I use Mame32 and have never had any issues with the Happ USB ball or the XArcade.

Maybe try out a different USB port? And double check your game settings within Mame to make sure you have the controls assigned to trackball.

By default, I believe it allows you to use a mouse-- unless you changed something within Mame32- the trackball should be 100% plug/play.
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?
