If you ask me they're the stupid ones. They should be selling those tokens!  :(

Of course, you WILL be able to buy them... In a few days, in packs of two tokens, from eBay. At insane prices.  :hissy:

I would take 500 of them...  Too bad I'm not going to pay what they'll be going for.

I wonder who the company is that made them?

Well Disney probably made them... or Buena Vista. They are a promotion for the upcoming movie. What's killing me is that tonight there is supposed to be some big Flynn's Arcade/Tron promotional event somewhere within walking distance of Comicon. I'm wondering if they have recreated the arcade or something similar for the night.

More here or just google.

Blasted work. If I could just have taken the day off for a 3 hour roadtrip....

Well Disney probably made them... or Buena Vista.

I'm not sure, but I believe it's more likely they contracted someone to do it.

Hope the movie is good.  I'm sure I'll see it.  Time to rent the original!

And if we can find out who made them, will they be allowed to make limited runs for us? I wouldn't bet on it, although it would be a good (but smaller) marketing stunt if they did.

Find out who the promotions company is and then find someone that works there.  These types of things are made in quantities 10x what they actually use.  My guess is that the ad agency who's dealing with this has 10,000+ sitting on a desk somewhere that they won't have anything to do with.  All we need is someone who knows someone!   :afro:

Some coverage of the whole Flynn's Arcade created for Comic Con 09...  Disney had a couple of Space Paranoids cabinets built!

And here's a machine who just had a price increase (did it?).

The value for these cabs is probably going to go (way) up now.

Also, those first tokens aren't going for cheap either. Note that this is for one token only!

I picked one of these up at Comic-Con yesterday.

I was a little surprised, they're really large, not your standard coin size. I'd recommend recreating them in standard size if you want them to work in your machine.

Can you measure the diameter for us please? From what I understand there's a lot of standard token sizes, up to 1.125 inch.

Ha HA!  I knew I'd be the coolest kid in town when the TRON sequel comes out... after having built a TRON themed MAME cab.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=89590.0

I've just got to get the finishing touches on it.  Next step is to boot skin XP64 so when you turn it on, the MCP says "Hello, Mr Dillenger.  Thanks for coming back early."

And I need 1000 of these awesome tokens!!

actually they are wrong flynn's arcade tokens should have "home of space paranoids" not home of tronwritten on them , this already says how much care thay are putting into details.

I'd suggest it says how much they understand marketing. Space Paranoids means something to fanboys/girls (of which I am one), but Tron means something to a much larger market.  This was smart of Disney.

Man, I've been thinking about those Space Paranoids cabinets all day.  I'm sure that Disney didn't create a new arcade game in the traditional sense.  They probably just built up a couple of prototype cabs and inside those things are windows based PCs running the game.

What are the chances of Disney releasing this game?  I'd pay to get it on my cab.  My cab has a perfect trackball/flightstick setup.

Someone already did a freeware version of it. I bet they even used it in their cab...

Based on the movement and control scheme, it's just using a FPS engine. Any decent mod team with access to a decent engine of choice should be able to pull something like that together.

Was anyone at Comic-con who got a chance to play the game? Was there more to gameplay than just shooting down "Paranoids"?

http://www.tron-sector.com/games/paranoids/

I did look into that version.  This made me not want to put it on my cab:

"The game must be rebooted every few hours as it will deplete system resources over time and crash."

If you can't fix something like that in your program, who knows what else it is doing?  That and it looks nowhere near as good as what's at comic con.
