X-Arcade Joysticks and coin mechs
« on: July 16, 2009, 08:05:01 am »
I have a question.  My son's looking at an X-Arcade Joystick on E-Bay which I think would work nicely for our mame cab we're building, but his cab came with all the original coin mechs, etc intact and he'd like to hook up the coin slots for the authentic feel of the game.  I know if we used an I-Pac we can hook up the coin mechs to them, but the X-Arcade is meant to be plugged right into the USB slot of course.  Anyone ever found a way to hook up their coin mechs with X-arcade units?  Or can I avoid the whole USB connection that comes with X-arcade and cut the internal wires and hook the thing up to an I-PAC anyway?

The wire connectors on the x-arcade are large enough to tie in more wiring if you want to run wire to the coin mechs....I dont per say have coin mechs, i have the lighted coin buttons from groovey game gear ( http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=89&products_id=295)

I ran the wires to the inside of the x-arcade and tied them to the credit buttons on the side of the x-arcade. That way, I dont void the lifetime warranty that x-arcade provides...
Hope that helps...

Also here is a site where a guy made a coin box and has it for his x-arcade...you might can work from it...hope it helps...

the xarcade comes with xarcades byoa board thing inside, basicly their version of the ipac.if you go xarcade site you can find out if this board accepts coin mech inputs, trouble is,if it does you need to run the coin mech to the board which is of course inside the xarcade.means you will have to do some drilling.

follow this link to the board and details, after a quick look i cant see anything about coin mech there.

like everyone else said, this is easily done.  the coin mechs simply have a switch at the bottom of the shute that is activated by a coin passing through, you simply need to extend long wires from these switches and connect them to the wires attached to two of the buttons in the xarcade unit.    i believe by default, the pinball buttons on the ends of the panel act as the coin buttons in mame, so you could just tap into those wires for your coin mechs.  you can even still keep the buttons connected if you wish so you can insert coins either by inserting an actual coin, or pushing the button
