R-89 Rowe pulse lights not working.
« on: July 13, 2009, 10:44:40 am »
Some of the pulse lights both upper and lower on my R-89 are not working. I checked the lamps and lamp housings, all good. Also checked for continuity from the boards to the harness plugs, all checked good. Any suggestions ?

Thanks....

Hi,

On the R-89 Sound to Light unit is 10 transistors, it is more than likely that one or two of these have become faulty.
Put the sound to light unit on the lights on setting continous and test each output voltage to ground. It should be around 14 volts.

If the fault is not on the transistors it will be in the Z1 ic which is a LM3914.
There could also be a problem with Q11, this drives Q10 when in the Bar and Dot mode.

Hi Alan,

I got the transistor and voltage part, but, everything else that you mention is totally foreign to me. Where is the Z1 IC located and what is LM3914.Q10,Q11 ??? I am a novice at best when it comes to jukebox repair.

Thanks again,

Tim

Hi Tim,

The Z1 IC is located in the sound to light unit and the chip number is LM3914.

The lights are controled by ten transisors marked up Q1 to Q10, these transisors control the ten lighting circuits of the sound to light unit.
You have two connections that are wired in parallel marked as P1 and P2 these go out two the lamps on the jukebox.

Here are the connection details:-

Pin 1 goes to lamp 1 and comes from Q1
Pin 2 goes to lamp 2 and comes from Q2
Pin 3 goes to lamp 3 and comes from Q3
Pin 4 goes to lamp 4 and comes from Q4
Pin 5 goes to lamp 5 and comes from Q5
Pin 6 goes to lamp 6 and comes from Q6
Pin 7 goes to lamp 7 and comes from Q7
Pin 8 goes to lamp 8 and comes from Q8
Pin 9 goes to lamp 9 and comes from Q9
Pin 10 goes to lamp 10 and comes from Q10
Pin 11 is the key
Pin 12 is the gound connection (common)

I Hope that makes it clearer

Alan
