if you're using artwork / plexi to cover...
then I would suggest you sink the bolt head into the wood..
you'll have a cleaner panel this way....

unless you want a flush mount... sure... yeah.. use carriage bolts... cuz that's what they used in the arcades...

You could just use #10 sized machine screws/bolts if you wanted as no one is going to try and unscrew/steal your joysticks like they would in an arcade... but it won't look "authentic" *shrug*

hmmm, well i could get some carraige bolts, but how would that look under lexan.  and while im on that topic of lexan, do i have to have that?  i mean, i have some contact paper...do i really need lexan over the top??

it's purely an astethetic thing... (although it protects the artwork underneath) --- If i were justlaying contact paper down, I wouldn't bother with lexan...  Once the contact paper wears off or starts peeling (and most likely it will on a wood application) you can just replace it with more contact paper (of course dissassmbling your sticks/buttons to do that, though)

*shrug*  You give any thought to that fancy vinyl speaker covering stuff Oscar found at partsexpresses site?

my personal experience is....

contact paper sucks on wood....

and if you use artwork and lexan on top...
you'll have a VERY clean and nice look / feel.....

hmmm, well i dont really know how to make artwork all that much.  i know how to do stuff in photoshop, but i dont know dimensions, how to set the dpi, and all that.  i dont want to create some elaborate art design only to have it all pixelated when i print it out at kinkos or whatever.  but if i decide to put artwork on, what type of paper do i need it to be printed out on?  and if i get some cp art off the net, if i just save it to a disc, and take it to kinkos, will it looks good?  

also, can i buy lexan at home depot or lowes?

it depends... i know the home depot i used to frequent sold lexan/plexi before, but they stopped doing so because they were losing too much business to tap plastics
