Couple of newbie questions on a wall mount juke
« on: July 08, 2009, 02:27:50 am »
I am finishing out my basement and you guys have inspired me to add a flush mounted juke box.  I have been doing my homework to map out my plan and I have a couple of questions:

1)  I am planning to add a couple of flush mounted in-ceiling speakers in my game room.  Can I get a good sound just by using these types of speakers?

2)  I am trying to understand the "flow" of the audio cabling.  As I understand it I can run a cable from the speaker output on my pc to the RCA jack (using a converter cable that is discussed throughout this board).  Do I need to use an amplifier or can I go straight from the PC to the speaker jacks?

3)  Where can I order a bezel to frame out the touch screen?  (I just ordered an ELO 1739L 17" touchscreen).  Are there standard bezels for each monitor or are they all custom made?

I appreciate any help you can give me.  Thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark,

You can get a reasonable sound from these mounted speakers, I would fit transformers to them so you can alter the wattage to each speaker.

We used to use these in installations in toilets, stairwells etc.

If you have the budget then go for the very small high qality wall mount speakers.

Hello Mark,

I have found this way to be probably the best way as this gives you volume control from behind the bar or on a rack/table somewhere.

Get some good 100+ watt in wall speakers and a good 80-100 watt receiver. Dont overdo the receiver as you may get some clown  turn it up so loud that it blows the speakers, thats why I say get larger speakers than receiver!

Spend the cash on the speakers, but you can find 80-100 watt receivers a flea markets or yard sales for $20-$30. You wont need surround sound or any thing like that if your just going to use it for a jukebox audio setup.

Also, for the frame, most use www.americanframe.com for a good square frame!

I hope this helps!

Don't rule out computer speakers.  I'm very happy with my Logitech Z2300 2.1 set.  I also like the way the Z4's sound (available for listening at many Target stores).  With both those models, you get a volume control knob on a remote that is large and appropriate for controlling a jukebox's volume.

Yes, incorporating the subwoofer could be a challenge.  It's large and not very attractive unless you like silver plastic.

Craigslist is your friend if you live in a metropolitan area.  I got my Z2300's for $50 via that route, and they're available new for $129 at newegg.com.

in wall and in cieling speakers are reliant on the surface being well built to avoid nasty resonances etc.

If you can build an enclosure behind them and deaden it with some insulating batts etc then they can be pretty damn good, if you just chop a hole and mount it into a large ceiling cavity like a recessed light then you will have sound bouncing all over the place in there and making it very loud in the room above, and not sounding very good.
