Mortal Kombat - "Turbo Ninja/Krazy Kombo" PCB
« on: July 03, 2009, 10:21:53 pm »
Hey guys. I have known about this Midway produced hack for a long time. Here is a back story. Way back in 1993 when MK1 was leaving the arcades and MK2 was entering, Midway thought they'd have some fun and released a 'hack' version of MK1 called "Turbo Ninja." I had never seen it in person, seen anyone play it, nor heard anyone talk about it very much. I heard of it a long time ago and have been looking low these many years for it. A couple weeks ago, I came across a listing on Ebay for "Mortal Kombat PCB: Tested/Working." Since I always browse for MK, I clicked on it and I was shocked to see that it was in fact the Turbo Ninja version. The seller had no idea that it was so rare, or they would have advertised it as such. I snagged it up and now am the proud owner of an extremely rare PCB. Here is some more info on it...

You can see from the following pics that this IS in fact what I received...

And here are a couple videos of it in action...

Anyway, I just wanted to share with the other MK fans and whoever else never knew about this hack. Thanks for your time.

Is this dumped and in MAME?

PS: The board itself might not be so "rare". It's usually just a case of burning EPROM chips with the new programming data and replacing them.
NO MORE!!

Yes, but the little extra pcb has a processor and a PAL security chip. You would need to figure out how to crack it or the rom dumps would be useless.
