Any help with key mapping for z26?
« on: July 02, 2009, 06:37:16 pm »
My daily post for problem solving!

What is the easiest way to key map with the z26?

I read an old post that says it automatically maps, which it did, however, the player 1 and 2 buttons are all over my cp.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Eric

PS, I think I may have this thing done for the 4th party! Still will be incomplete, but very playable. I hope to put pics up on Saturday. Couldn't have done it without this community! Thanks!

Is there any documentation out there giving the assigned number to each key?

I can't find anything.

Thanks again.

You can try using AutoHotKey.  But I think I tried that and it doesn't work.  On my system, I have a version of z26 that I modified and compiled myself.  The source code is available here:  http://www.whimsey.com/z26/z26.html.  I compile it with MinGW on windows xp.  Some of it is in assembly and some in C, luckily the parts you're looking for are in C.

Wow.

This scares me!

No idea what I'm looking for, pretty intense though!

There is a hacked version of z26 emulator which allows for key mappings via an INI file, so this is probably what you want.

   -  Go to the following site:

           http://www.emuchrist.org/cpviewer/applications.htm

   - Under the "Emulators" section, click on the "Atari 2600 - Z26 ver. 2.13 (jfath)" link to download it.

As an extra bit of information, here is a PDF file I found relating to z26, although I never looked into yet, but thought I would mention it.

     http://www.whimsey.com/z26/z26.pdf

I remember I started using z26 as the Atari2600 emulator but change to use the "Stella" emulator instead.  Have you tried the Stella emulator?

    http://stella.sourceforge.net/

Anyway, good luck

There is also a version that already has the mame key mappings (no need for an ini file), which is the version I use.  You can find it at
http://www.whimsey.com/z26/Z26V213X.ZIP  (same site mentioned by Unclet)

This might be the same as what I mentioned earlier ... "Atari 2600 - Z26 ver. 2.13"

I would assume z26 was updated to use an INI file and the default contents on the INI file are the MAME defaults.
