Tempest replica knobs - [now black anodized!]
« on: July 08, 2003, 09:35:06 pm »
I received the first of my Tempest replica knobs today.  These are machined from solid aluminum alloy and are dimensionally identical to the original Tempest spinner knobs.

Overall height:  .75"
Body diameter:  1.25"
Skirt diameter:  1.825"
Weight:  2oz.

Below are some photos of the natural finish aluminum knobs.  Black anodized knobs are currently being finished off and will be available in approximately one week.  The anticipated sell price will be $16 each.

I only had a very small quantity (about 20) of natural finish knobs fabricated, the majority of the knobs will be black anodized.  I don't plan on adding the natural finish Tempest knob to the website, but rather probably just post a link in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum to purchase them directly.  If there is an overwhelming desire for the natural finish, I will have more fabricated with the next production run.  The natural finish Tempest knobs will be available within the next day or two.

Rock on.  If only there was a way to change the knobs on the fly! Salesman: "Tired of playing DOT with a standard knob? Too many authentic choices for you? Well step right up! Turn this here and Presto! off comes your tempest knob and snap in your DOT! No more using the wrong knob with the wrong game! Men will want to be you, and women will want to be with you!....etc"  j/k!  :)

Looks sharp!

Too nice Kelsey... too nice.  Is there anything you can't/won't machine/die reproduce? =P

I'm holding out for the fully machined out of aluminum pants.

(i'd wet myself laughing if OSCAR replied with a CAD drawing of pants and a, "I looked into it, but the costs were too high -- but i'm still working on my suppliers to get them lower!"

I know what you mean.  I've got the up/down with DOT knob for my panel...but now I kinda like the idea of the pro with Tempest knob!

Either way I like the 'natural' Tempest knob VERY much :)  Perhaps I could use for my paddle instead...

It's about time!  :P Cool knobs! I'm going to replace my wobbly Fultra replica knob with one of these!

Tired of playing DOT with a standard knob? Too many authentic choices for you? Well step right up! Turn this here and Presto! off comes your tempest knob and snap in your DOT!   :)

This is an idea, have the snap on like a socket wrenche...hmmmmm.

Considering that Tempest is the huge reason I own a spinner in the first place , I'm down with getting a black one!  Farewell OSCAR black-skirted knob...I barely knew ye.  ;)

If you were interested in selling the thing, how much would you let it go for? (please PM me about it) I'm curious.

Thanks for the nice comments, I'm glad you guys like how they turned out so far!

For those interested, I have posted a thread regarding purchasing these natural finish Tempest knobs here:  http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=9431

Someday I'm gonna take you up on that offer, Zakk!  But first I have to finish some pants for rampy...  ;)

Good job, Kelsey!

Very nice, and I love the "natural" polished aluminum version (I guess I'm not much of a Tempest "purist," huh?)

Here's a pic of the black anodized version.  These will be available within the next couple of days.  The price for the black ones will be the same as the natural finish at $16 each.

The black looks nice -- that's a very deep, dark black, btw.

I got my natural finish Tempest knob, and aside from some slightly "sharp" feeling edges on the knurling (your machinist makes very precise cuts!), it's fantastic. The fit and finish are perfect.

This is a great knob for playing Tempest (go figure...  ;))
