MAME Versions for KI and KI2
« on: June 25, 2009, 11:41:56 am »
All of my games run smooth, except for KI and KI2. I'm thinking its the MAME version its running on. I'm at the current version of MAME, does anyone have a verison they run both games on with no issues?

My PC is a 2.4G P4, GeForce FX5200, 2GB of RAM.

Thanks.

I'm not a mame pro (yet) but I have the same specs as yours, and I dont have any problems with KI&K2...I'm running Mame 129...

KI1 is the only one worth bothering with, and I've got it perfect on MAME 0.105, 2.0Ghz CPU with 512mb RAM. As I've said before, bombarding extra parts isn't necessary if you can optimise the PC you have first. I believe the later versions of MAME suck anyway and don't think the graphics and sound re-writes should ever have been done.

your specs are about the same as mine (you have twice the RAM), I'm running MAMEUI .129 and both play with no issues for me
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'll try downgrading MAME this weekend, and see if that fixes the issue. I'm just glad its not my PC being to sluggish to run the game.

You need to look at stripping background services away (particularly if running XP) to free up more RAM. I've found more RAM helps get rid of sound glitches and lag on more demanding games (at least on pre-0.106 MAMEs) and if still struggling, ensure frameskip is set at a fixed amount rather than auto - say 1 or 2 at most.

it runs 100% with a little to spare on a athlon xp 2200 i have, 768 ram SDRAM it would be faster with ddr1 (by about 5-15%)

i was using fastmame 0.98

fast mame is great about 10-20% faster then regular mame32
i just recently discovered it but i dont think it's being updated anymore past 0.98 and it's site is messed up.. now just has a review of some neogeo game no down load links :(

the first version of mame to support KI 1 & 2 was 0.63.. although it was hard finding a CHD for it (v1.0)

EDIT: actually i went back and double checked, there seems to be a problem with fastmame 0.98, it does'nt want to save dip switches or buttons.

the next oldest release i have for fastmame is 0.84, and it works fine so you might try that.

I have a semrpon (cant remember the speed) headless compaq laptop with a gig of ram and KI works flawlessly with Mame .132. That thing really impresses me.

Havent tried KI2, but I never really played it back in the day, so I dont really care that much.

SFIII: 3rd strike works fine too, if you cared. Those are the 2 newest games I have on it.

Thanks for the input guys. I went ahead and downloaded the newest version of MAME (.132). My games are running great now, except for a few (SF2, SF2CE). I think I need to upgrade the ROMS. I've never done that before, but I'll do a search tonight on the forums to see how to do that.

Other than that, everything else works great!
