Wanted - Empty Pinball Cabinet near Philly or Baltimore
« on: June 24, 2009, 09:45:49 am »
I'm looking to pick up a pinball cabinet for an upcoming video pinball project.  The wider the better.  The local shop here only has working machines and I'm not willing to tear a classic apart.

I would love to check out an auction, but somehow, I can't find one anywhere.  I'm on the major mailing lists to be notified too.

Why not build one?  It's just a simple rectangular box.

True, but an existing one will be well made, have metal legs, a coin door, a plunger, proper glass, folds down, etc...

I was told than a nonworking/boardless pinball cab would go for $75-$100.  I would think the materials to build a new cabinet would cost more.

There is a guy up in Allentown or Bethlehem that occasionally has completely gutting cabs. I can't remember his name but he is on RPG a lot and I have seen the gutted cabs on ebay before.

But TBH, you might be better off just building one from scratch. It's an easy build. You can buy a new coindoor already wired for about 80 bucks I think. The legs are around 80. A plunger will cost you 10-15. Not sure about glass...but if you are dropping in a 40-42" TV, you might as well make the body fit the tv.

If you do go for a empty cab, most likely you want a widebody unless your tv has a super slim bezel.

Definitely check the HyperPin forums out for more ideas. We have a forum dedicated to cabs and there are about 6-10 people with threads on their projects.

Good luck!

I do check the HyperPin forums, but they are blocked for me here at work.  In fact, they are where I got the idea to do this in the first place.

Sorry, what does RPG stand for?
