Guide to Freedo/3DO iso's game setup in Mala

(This guide should be easy to follow for front end beginners level people)

This way of setting up Mala/3do is possible just one of more ways of doing it. Look at the bottom for a way of using Freedowrapper with freedo 1.6.

If you think it's a big job creating the bat's for this setup, you can get them from me. Post me.

1. Get FreeDO Beta 1.7 WIP (newest edition is in Russian at this point and cant be recommended as the 1.7 runs fair, but you could try, but no one knows if anything is gained at this point).
2. Get Closemul program
3. Get the 3do iso torrent
4. make a folder called '3do', place it with your other rom folders in mala setup
4a. Place EVERYTHING in the folder '3do' that you created. It might not be what you are used to.
(You might be used to have emu's in one folder and roms in another. But here we use one folder for all needed stuff, due to the bat's).
5. Get the program aspi_v470.exe , NOT aspi 470.dll (or similar but other version) as some places on the net suggests!
6. Edit the closemul .ini file. (if no file then run closemul one time).
7. Fill the following in closemul ini file:
-----------------------------------
[Parameters]
Exit Key 1=27
Exit Key 2=
Extract=
Extracted Ext 1=iso
Extracted Ext 2=
Pre Command=
Post Command=
Mount Program=
Mount Device=
Mount Parameters=
Registry File=
Automation="FreeDO Beta 1.7 WIP"
Automation Steps="WAIT 700,ALT+F,ENTER,FILE,ENTER,ALT+C,ENTER,ENTER,F4"
Automation Delay=
Program=
Program 2=
Param Before File=
Param After File=
File=
Snap 1 Search=
Snap 2 Search=
Snap Extension=
Snap Source Folder=
Snap 1 Dest Folder=
Snap 2 Dest Folder=
Quit Management=
Quit TimeOut=
Disable Quotes=
------------------------

8.unzip aspi_v470.exe
9.run ASPIINST.EXE
9A. Now reboot your PC in order for the Aspi install to work
9B. In Mala setup dont fill the executable field (leave emty)(always when we are talking bats in Mala), and the rom dir goes to the 3do folder. Then edit the extentions field to only have 'bat', not 'cue and bat and other file extentions' or you will have each game twice on the game list. Only the iso's are needed there.
10. Unzip the torrent 3do to your folder "3do" to get Iso's and cue files in there.
11. Now you need to create batch files. (Make a notepad file and replace the extention from txt to bat).
12. Make the first batch file that you will later use make all 251 bat files with.
13. Try out the bat. It should work. Otherwise recheck your bat for tttype mistakes. If this not works: repeat the steps in the list to check for mistakes.
14. The bat needs to look like this: closemul.exe freedo.exe file="Zhadnost - The Peoples Party (1995)(Studio 3DO)(EU)[!].iso" (or any other iso).
15. Now repeat the process of making 251 bat's. You need to replace the file="xxxxxxx.iso"and the name of the bat to the same name as the iso. Some smart people can automate the process, others need to do it by hand.

Let me know if there should be anything you have a problem with. Or if there's a file you can't find: Post me.

Henrik

PS: There's another way of running 3do iso's in mala. It involves no bat's, so it could be an easier way of installing. It's with the Freedowrapper and freedo 1.6 (only 1.6). The 1.6 can't be found on the freedo emu site anymore so that's a problem. Further
there can be a problem when you end a game in this way of install. The layout in Mala might be a mess after ending games, due to a resolution problem. This might not be a problem with your resolution. It could be that it's only on some resolutions that this  happens.
The Tick in Mala on the 'game start/quit' (recoder layout if cluttered.....), does not work on this problem on my setup.

1)  That tick mark to reorder the layout have been around for a lot of versions.. not just Mala 1.6.
2)  Help me understand how the Mala 1.6 beta is less stable than older versions.
3)  Why use batch files for closemul.exe freedo.exe file="Zhadnost - The Peoples Party (1995)(Studio 3DO)(EU)[!].iso" when this can be executed from within mala using the rom name and rom path variables?

closemul.exe needs to be in the same folder as freedo.exe
the executable needs to be:
Code: [Select]
closemul.exethe command line should be something like:
Code: [Select]
freedo.exe  file="%path%\%rom%.%ext%"The rom path should be to the folder where your isos are.
The rom extension should be:
Code: [Select]
iso

That's using your method with closemul.exe.  The method I use is:
freedowrapper.exe needs to be in the same folder as freedo.exe
the executable needs to be:
Code: [Select]
FreeDoWrapper.exethe command line should be:
Code: [Select]
"%path%\%rom%.%ext%"The rom path should be to the folder where your isos are.
The rom extension should be:
Code: [Select]
iso

I  said that the mala 1.6 was not yet stable, its a beta, it's not yet open to the public. So you would guess that it's better to wait til it's a public version. I've read about it not beeing fully stable  in many posts. If it was fully stable then it might have been public now.

You are right about the tick beeing also in the old Mala's. However it dont work (atleast not with my layout res (1280 x 800) The way you run yours  with Freedowrapper, does not work on my setup. The  layout is still cluttered even if you tick the 'recorder layout if cluttered....'
We do not use the same layout resolution apparently (mine is 1280 x 800).
So this is why i made the guide for using bat's, and it says in the bottom that there's another way. The way you use.

Also Freedowrapper only works with the old 1.6 freedo emu. Can you get it runnning with a newer version then please show how. This i would like to know about.

I've now added to my guide that it is only one way of doing it.

I'm sorry, but I don't fully understand.  Are you saying that the only way you can prevent the layout from being cluttered is by using bat files?

So in Mala, if you use closemul.exe as the executable and use a command line of:
Code: [Select]
freedo.exe  file="%path%\%rom%.%ext%"there is a cluttered layout problem?

No. I've just desided to make the setup with bats after the freedowrapper/layout clutter problem.

I would like to try out your Closemul setup. Could you make a post with the closemul ini file content here?  I dont fully see how your setup idea should work? (and what version of freedo are you using for this?).

I cant get you setup to work. Is this something you've tryed out yourself?
Please respond.

Yes. Which of the two methods listed can you not get to work?

The Closemul version.

Please copy the content of your closemul ini file to this tread. I  would like to see what you've done there.

Following your guide gave me a mala error message saying *can find the executable* or something like this.

The thing is, i deleted the whole test seup after it failed, since my way of doing it runs smooth and all bat's are created.
But i would like to get you way working sice it could  be a way to use in more future setups for me. Could you display the closemul ini settings and tell a bit more?

EDIT: I MADE THE SETUP AGAIN AND IT NOW WORKS:  NO ALTERNATIONS TO PREVIOUS
SETUP: STRANGE. BUT THANKS FOR YOUR IDEA!

But why can't i get it working with other versions than 1.7?
Do you have an answer to that?
Could be something in the closemul ini? Ofcourse i've change emu exe in there, but maybe a wrong name of the emu or?

EDIT:
I've now had two situations where Mala went totally strange when trying to start a 3do game the way you have described it. I had to copy the whole mala folder (59 mb) (a backup) to solve the problem (or atleast it solved the problem, i dont know if it was fully needed, but an easy way to reverting back to normal).
I'm reverting back to my setup with the bat's for now. Have had to many problems
for now.
