Convert Wico 8-way to 4-way?
« on: June 23, 2009, 09:26:33 am »
Anyone know how to Convert a Wico 8-way to 4-way?  Is there a restrictor hack that can be used?

Install the 4 way base on the stick. It's a gray base.

Cool, well if i had one of those then I wouldn't need the hack, but a while ago I bought those Chinese Repro's and those look like they have the 4-way base on them, i will try that

You could add a plate with a square hole between the panel and the stick so the shaft cannot be moved into the corners.....that's just what I did with one of my cabs :)

Hey Luigi, that is exactly what i am talking about!!!  How did you cut the hole, what kind of material did you use, what were the mearsurements? I have a surplus of 8way wico leafs, no 4-ways, and really can't find them.  The wico leaf is the ultimate calssic joy, there is no substitute in my opinion, especially for 4-way.  I know it is allot to ask but if you have a pic handy???

The dimensions of the hole depend on where you put the restrictor plate.  The higher on the shaft you put it, the larger the hole needs to be.

I'm pretty sure you got that backwards. Maybe you can utilize one of these:

I was thinking the restrictor would be placed on top of the CP.  If you put it on the bottom of the joystick like the factory would have done, then it would be reversed like you said.   ;)

Sorry for the delay.

I have put the plate (made of stainless steel) between the panel and the base of the joystick. I simply drew a circle with the size of the stick-hole in the panel and inserted a square....just like in the added picture. I drilled a large hole in the middle and some smaller ones near the edges of the square and then used a file to make it the right size :)

I painted the plate black so the square was almost invisible....of course you don't need that when you use a washer ;)
