layout reverts to wrong res (chaos on screen) after game
« on: June 23, 2009, 07:25:25 am »
I have a problem with playing Quake 3 Arena/or using Freedowrapper with Freedo 1.6 on my Mala FE. When i end the game the layout is total chaos (wrong resolution as far as i can see). I can switch to another layout and then back again to 'fix' the problem but it's not ideal. Any suggestions? (I've played with ALL video options in Quake 3).

this can be caused by nvidia graphics accelerator or similiar, try uninstalling any graphics program and just install the driver, should help

I have the build in Intel Graphics Media accelerator on, but that one is the main graphis driver. Is this the one you want me to turn of? This is my pc's main driver. Then i have no graphics driver? (Its not all games that messes up the layout, only this one game). But i had a similar problem with a 3do setup runnning Freedowrapper on Freedo 1.6. I had to give up on that setup and do a whole other way of running 3do in Mala with bacth'es. So it seems it could be a problem that could be solved in MALA itself? But Loadman dont seem interested in looking into this (at this point). I'm no programmer but it seems to me to be a minor thing to fix in the program. Mala just needs to focus on it's layout resolution each time a game is ended. (in this case PC games). Seems to be no problem with (most)emu's. (Most: Referring to the 3do Freedowrapper i had the same problem with).

Same problem here even with the latest beta.
When I run Makaron to play NAOMI games and quit the application, the layout is garbled.
I'll play with refesh rates tonight but Makaron does not let me specify resolution or refresh rate.

It a big problem with some emu's and games this thing.

I've not solved anything here.

I used to only run MAME and Daphne, all at the same resolution as MaLa and did not have any problems.  However, now I'm running Makaron for NAOMI arcade games and it does not have the option of controlling the output resolution so I sympathize with you.

I made sure to set my desktop refresh rate to the same as the games (assuming the games are running at 60Hz) and still no improvements.

I might have to mess around with the layout to see what I can do.

If anyone has any solutions, I'm all ears as this is rather annoying.

Thanks.

I don't know if this is an option, but have you considered using Demul for your Naomi games.  Pretty sure you can set the resolution, and it is apparently working well right now.  I don't use it, but I have kicked the tires and took a look under the hood:

Hi SGT.

It's good to hear from you after about a year vacation from the hobby (I always come back).

What a coincidence.  I was just giving Demul a test drive myself last Thursday.
I'll keep looking into it.  I don't know which one is more compatible and accurate but if I find Demul to play all the games I like without issues, I might switch just to get around the resolution problem.

I was just playing around with it a little more and realized it runs Ikaruga verly slowly on my machine whereas the other emulators play it without breaking a sweat.  I'll try tweaking parameters and see what I come up with.  Also, setting the resolution to full screen, cuts off a portion of the image instead of fitting it to the screen.
