+1 - I'm with you there, Gary, but with a twist.
Initially, I was thinking Ms Pac man would make a more iconic impact in the gameroom for 1-player vert games but to build a slim version and use an lcd monitor while keeping the cab's build closer to an original cab. Sacrilegious, I know, but a Centipede has that iconic shape and would work well as the monitor and bezel was in a more vertical, space-saving position to begin with. NOS bezels, marquees, side-art, and CP are available. 19" lcds are not overly expensive these days and the viewing angles wouldn't need to be wide as two people playing have to swap positions anyway.
I was considering the same scratch-built, slim, lcd treatment for a William Multi for horizontal 1-player games and Street Fighter II - World Warrior cab with a wide-screen lcd for 2-player fighters including Street Fighter 4. Three slim cabs would cover a lot of the video game bases and leave a bit more room in a tight area of the basement for pinball machines.
