IBM P202 Monitor Questions

Hey everyone,

This is my first official post and had a question. I posted a ad on craigslist for a 19-21" monitor and just picked up a IBM 21" (19.8" viewable) CRT computer monitor.

I plugged in the vga cable and not getting a response from the monitor, the power light starts green and then switches to a flashing amber. But nothing else lights up.

Anyone happen to have a owners manual for this? I have search the web and could not turn up a single thing...this is a pretty old monitor. I'm thinking the monitor is dead.

I was lucky enough to buy three empty arcade cabinets (with controls there) for $5 a piece. I planned on putting PC's in there and using them in our youth center at church.

Have you tried a reboot with that monitor plugged in?
Are you plugging into a known working port? (I know I turn my onboard video off to use a video card, etc)
Green turning to Amber generally means no video signal on most I've seen.

Thanks for the quick reply,  I know the port is working because I have a 17" lcd plugged into that vga port and it's working fine.

It would seem like I should have some sort of screen saver or something on the screen when the monitor isn't plugged into a computer. Heck I should even get a menu option when I push the menu button w/o anything plugged in...or it would seem.

It's a Dell GX60 computer with onboard Video and windows XP...

I did notice the flash being a sequence....two steady flashes and then a pause.

I finally found the user guide if anyone is looking for it. It tells you that if it is flashing orange twice to contact the repair shop, but doesn't actually tell you what it means. It doesn't matter if the monitor is plugged in or not.

Seems you already found your answer, but I just wanted to comment that as soon as you said it was flashing I immediately thought "error code".
So yeah, it seems something would be wrong with it.

i have one of these and they are fantastic monitors..

the power company where i live makes me feel like im living in a 3rd world country.

momentary power outages regularly and for no apparent reason, i remember 2 years ago for 6 months we would loose power for about 5 seconds every single day like clock work at 9am

we've had the same transformer 2 streets over blow up twice in as many years.. just suddenly POOF and you see a flash of orange or blue light in the sky and a big boom.

anyway enough rambling not sure whats wrong with mine.. we had a power outage one night, when we got power back the monitor never came back up.. amber standby light blinks faster then normal (normally it's a slow steady blink if it has no signal, now blinks twice as fast)..

i have no idea how to diagnose the nuts and bolts of a monitor nor do i wish to try, could'nt find anyshop that would touch it.
