VENDOR - [US/OH/Toledo] Tempest monitor replacement
« on: June 12, 2009, 02:26:09 pm »

My company has developed a board that will plug into Temptest, space dual, gravitar, black widow, or quantum and will convert the vector signals of this game to a standard SVGA signal.

This allows you to replace a broken XY monitor with any SVGA monitor without altering the harness or the cabinet!

If you feel like it, you could even run your Tempest on a 50" plasma! However, the main goal is to save old vector games from the scrap heap by giving the collectors a way to easily replace broken Wells-Gardner 6100 or Amplifone monitors with readily available SVGA monitors.

You can get more information at: http://www.VectorVGA.com

technical questions can be directed to Lee Cross at: info@VectorVGA.com

all other questions can be directed to Vicki Kurtz at: sales@VectorVGA.com

MSRP: $179

:soapbox:

If you do replace your XY monitor using our board - please try and sell it to other collectors or a restoration shop! Part of the goal of this board is to save as many vector games as possible and in the right hands, two broken vector monitors may be albe to be combined into one working one!

Even if I got this in my email, and I hadn't requested it I would hardly consider it spam. I love all the arcade goodness especially new products.

The very definition of SPAM is "unsolicited email".   Regardless of content.  It's SPAM and should be dealt with accordingly.   Responding to SPAM produces more SPAM.  It was very low-ball to spam their product the way they did.  Had they simply posted here,  on KLOV,  MAMEWORLD,  etc... that's fine... but it talks a pretty ---smurfy--- person to decide to blanket SPAM...even if it's targeted.

I'm curious how good the output could be... Seems like a downgrade to me.

Seems like?  It is.  There is no way a raster monitor can simulate a vector monitor completely accurate.  Sure,  it looks better than running MAME with a CGA monitor,  but it's no where near as bright as a true vector.  Also,  blacks will be washed out compared to the true black of a vector.  Certainly it has it's uses,  but it IS a downgrade from a vector.  That said,  if you're options are this or nothing,  I'd take this over nothing.

Play Tempest with MAME on a PC monitor at 800x600 and you'll see pretty much exactly what it would look like.

Um, no. A PC monitor has much higher dot pitch, and faster response, than an SVGA monitor. Anyways, I didn't get nothin in my email. I don't consider it spam, either.
