How easy to upgrade a Golden Tee
« on: June 11, 2009, 09:43:55 pm »
I have an opportunity to grab a Golden Tee 99 for $250.  I already have a MAME cab with trackball that runs 2000, so to justify buying the dedicated one, it would have to run something newer than what MAME can run.  I haven't found too much info in my searching, seems like I may need a 2000 or newer for an easy upgrade to something more modern?  I think the newer ones also have more buttons, but that wouldn't be a big deal to drill a couple new holes.

Golden Tee 3d, 97, 98, 99 and probably classic all run off the same hardware. All you need to switch between each game is swap a dozen or so chip on the board which can be done easily (I bought a 2k machine 6 years ago and then bought the chip for 97. 98 and 99.) For anything newer (the version using backspin button and/or fly-by with revamped graphic and are/used to be connected online), the hardware is totally different,  revamped graphic. So to run those game in your dedicated 99 cabinet, you'd have change pretty much everything inside that is worth mentioning, not sure about the monitor, but I would think so. You'd also have to modify your control pannel.

Short:

Converting 99 to 3d,97,98,2k, classic : Easy, swap 12 chip on the PCB board.
Converting to Fore, 2002, 2003 etc... Much more painfull, pretty much change/modify everything other then the trackball.
