Wii remote as gun controller
« on: June 09, 2009, 06:47:11 pm »
Hi guys
Just wondering if anyone has tried this as i cant afford to shell out for 2 PC lightguns?
I was thinking of hacking 2 Wii remotes into gun casings, as i know this can be done with one and have it fully motion detecting. but i have never seen two used at once and i would like to know if it is possible.
Thanks in advance guys
Damien

I have the WIImote and the gun case to put it in. I play ghost squad and it works ok until you move from the position where you calibrated the gun. Plus it has (in a minor fashon) the same problems that LCD top gun has.
I give up  fighting keyboard dislexia, I lost.

Thanks for the reply  :)
Any ideas about getting 2 going on same pc at once tho?
Does the computer see it as a mouse device or a joystick?
Thanks

unless there have been some major breakthroughs, the wiimote is not ready to be fully used as a mame lightgun.  the bluetooth pairing process has to be performed each time you boot the pc, and it is just cumbersome to get working

Severed's right. I haven't found any reliable, automatic way of pairing the Wiimote on boot of a PC.

There's several theoretical approaches floating around, but I've never gotten anything to work reliably and consistently. From what I can tell, the Wiimote +IS+ bluetooth, but not 100% kosher bluetooth. They do some things with respect to the wii console that you just don't normally do with PC bluetooth devices.

....and personally I'd still not bother with these as most still suck in some way or another. Whoever comes out with the first easy-configurable, PC/MAME compatible, interference-free and stylish light gun is gonna rake it in. We've been after the solution for years and in my opinion nothing comes close to as acceptable as I'd like it.

I'm after something that looks like and runs as well as the GCon45 did on PS1. Until then I'll give it a miss as I'd rather not play light gun games at all than play them badly.
