mass changing of controls assaignments in mame in regards to genres/etc

I have a seven button setup on my 1 and 2 player setup for the neo geo 4 button in a row setup.  However, I am too lazy to manually change EVERY neo geo games control setup.   Is there some sort of program that can do this for me?  I also would like to make it so trackball games can be more comfortably played so i could move those buttons around or something.
