Joystics with fire button on top
« on: June 06, 2009, 10:29:57 am »
Hi

I see some control panel designs have an estra joystick with a fire button on top on them.

Like this one (top right)   http://www.newfossils.com/images/ArcadeMachine/ControlPanelTop.JPG

What specific games are these designed for?

Top fire would mostly be usable in tank type games like battlezone. On the picture provided that's a bad setup, as it should have 2 joys, of which one would have top fire, otherwise there is little purpose for a single joy to have top fire, I guess you could use it with tron maybe?
One more game that would be usable SDI-strategic defense initiative you would need joy with top fire for optimal playability as your other hand is occupied with trackball (please no innuendos here!) ;)

I use my star wars yoke for battlezone.
OK, I know it is not authentic... but another great use for the best controller ever designed!

Having owned two of those sticks I can tell you right now they are a piece of crap.   They don't feel right and the push button assembly is alot to be desired.

If you want a great stick...gaudy as it may seem the Heavy Duty Happs eight way is the way to go....of course there are others, I just like the Tron look.

I assume you are referring to the sticks mentioned in the first post, correct?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Thank goodness you said "prototype". That means there's still a chance to correct it.

Stop trying to hijack this thread it's about top fire joysticks and not how my panel does or does not look. And keep your snotty remarks to yourself.
