Force disabled images in posts
« on: June 03, 2009, 04:03:05 am »
I could swear I saw this option somewhere but I can't seem to find it. If it's there, forgive me and direct me.

It would be nice to force the forum not to display images within posts. Nice to include all images, those uploaded and hosted here and those that are linked to from outside (such as flickr). As an added bonus it would be nice to dynamically display/hide those pictures, similar to the ignore feature. The reason is two fold.

I often check posts in threads I have an interest in while I'm away from my primary computer. It would prevent sucking precious bandwidth loading pictures I've already seen, expanding cache on a public machine and more importantly, make it less obvious that I'm eerrr... studying technical information about computers.  ;D

Second is that some of these photo posts are HUGE, loading assloads of images in a single post (Project Announcements and Artwork are the worst offenders) or loading overly large images and often several such posts exist on the same page. If I switch computers, flush the cache or do any number of things that forces me to re-download the images, it's a bit of a waste of time, effort and bandwidth doing so. Especially since I've already seen the images and I'm just trying to get down to the meat of things.

I could tinker with Grease Monkey to behavior like that in BYOAC but it's just a workaround for one PC.

So did I miss the feature or is this a viable idea?

I seem to remember that being on some themes but not others.
