Timer for video previews?
« on: June 02, 2009, 07:13:58 pm »
I asked about this in the "beta" thread, but maybe it got overlooked.  I'm running Mala 1.62g with layouts that play preview videos from Emumovies.  The videos loop continuously when a game is selected, which is really cool, since the videos are relatively short.  However, I'm wondering if there's a setting to stop playing the videos after a certain amount of time (like a "sleep mode"?).  I looked through the preferences and couldn't find anything.

I've got my monitor to turn off after 15-30 minutes of inactivity, and I'd really like to set the preview videos to turn off after a similar amount of time.

I don't think the video timer has to be based on any sort of "inactivity".  Maybe there could be a setting for the maximum time that a video can play?

dont know if this will help you but I use the screen saver option and have it show a couple pics from a folder.  The two pics I use are just two versions of the Mame emblem.  When the screen saver kicks in, the videos obviously stop running so the noise cuts off too.

Unless that isn't your goal.

That's an interesting idea to use the built-in Windows screen saver.  I checked, and I have my screen saver set to "none" and instead just use the "Monitor Power" option to turn off the monitor after inactivity.  I'll have to experiment with the screensaver (maybe with the "blank" option).

Does the screensaver interfere with MAME or other emulators?  I seem to remember turning it off because MAME or some other emulator apparently reported "inactivity" to Windows when playing a game, and then the screensaver popped on after playing a game for 15 minutes.

I thought he was referring to Mala's built-in screensaver instead of the Window's one.  However, I could be wrong.

Is it that the 'sound' on the video previews is annoying you when the windows screen saver kicks in?

Is that the issue?
