Idea for attaching a steering wheel (with pic)
« on: July 04, 2003, 03:54:56 pm »
I don't remember who gave me the idea anymore, but I decided to go with railings for my steering wheel. When I'm finished it mounts back above the machine out of the way on a seperate set of rails. Anyways, here's a picture of it. Thanks to whoever gave me the idea! (Sorry I lost the thread where we talked about it.)

I used aluminum railings. They're easy to cut and drill and they guarantee a straight smooth rail (which is more than what wood could do).

I know the picture is a bit dark, but it's the last one I could get off before my camera battery died. I have some better ones in the camera that I will try to get to ya'll later, but they're in the built-in memory - not the compact flash card.

P.S. It's not a attatched in this picture, but I have a large plastic screw that holds the whole thing in place. I snatched it from the wheel's clamp before I sawed it off.

I like what you've done... I believe if I hadn't gone the way I did and saw how you did yours I mighta tried the u channel as it's how I originally envisioned I'd try a removable yoke/steering wheel.

that's alot like mine, but mine uses two rails and a piece of wood. pretty cool how yours mounts. does that long handle mount in the back as well, or do you just cast it away?
