Ultimarc Pac-Drive Set-Up
« on: May 18, 2009, 02:14:32 pm »
I will begin configuring the button led's on my Pac-drive next week. This is the first time I have built a cabinet control panel, and I wanted to make sure I was doing this the right way. The instructions that came with hardware is somewhat limited, and seemed to be for the experianced builder. From what I gather reading the instructions, is that all of the 12v wires connect at the end terminal (See Attached Photo), and all of the ground wires go in the other seperate terminals. Is that the correct way to connect these wires? Does is make a difference if the 12v go in seperate terminals and all the ground wires are together? I also wanted to make sure which wire coming off of the button was the ground and which was the 12v. One of the wires has a small resistor or diode at the end so I'm assuming that is the 12v. Can someone advise on this. Thanks in advance ! :-\

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

DO NOT connect 12v to the Pac-drive!

The way you have it wired, it would be sending 5v, but you're doing it all wrong anyway.

Daisy-chain the 12v to your lights from your power source (the PC's power supply is a great source).  Connect NOTHING to the first port! Run your ground wires individually to each terminal.

See this pic:

From Ultimarc:
For connecting devices requiring a higher total current than 500mA for all devices, or devices requiring more than 5 volts,
Instead of connecting the red power "daisy chain" to the "+" connection on the PCB, simply connect to an appropriate voltage source.
For example a PC disk power connector will provide 12 volts through the yellow wire.

When using 12 Volts DO NOT CONNECT THE 12 VOLT SUPPLY DIRECT TO ANY OF THE BOARD TERMINALS

O.K.

I was under the impression that the picture was just an alternate way of powering the led's on the buttons  ::) I think I will do as you suggested, and daisy chain the 12v wires to a 4-pin connector on my pc's power supply.

These are the buttons that I have ( http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=281 )

Do you see me having any problems connecting them as you suggested?

Thanks for the advice!  :-\

Those are 5v, so yeah, I see a problem. Use the 5v wiring method.
