Which ramp(s) to pick?
« on: May 17, 2009, 07:21:25 pm »
I have been slowly rebuilding/modifying a 1978 Williams Phoenix I picked up off craigslist.

http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=1780

So far I replaced both the MPU and Driver boards with new ones from www.pinballpcb.com and added custom green displays from www.pinscore.com. The old ones were not worth saving. And I am still trying to get the sound card to work. :badmood:

I plan to rearrange the playing field and add ramps for a more modern feel.
But I am having a hard time deciding on which ramp(s) to get, so I am looking for some thoughts and input of which ramps you guys like and don't like.

I was looking at replacement ramps on www.marcospecialties.com and I kinda like the godzilla ramp set up.

I was planning on making the left hand bulls eye target into a switch for a ramp so that way the ramp actually has value in the game not just to look pretty.

Yes, I do realize I will have to rebuild the cabinet to make room for the ramps and that the game play will be limited by the original roms.

If you have an idea liked to hear it.

Thanks

Your best bet is to custom make a ramp to fit your needs. You also have to understand that you will need to lower the playfield down into the cabinet a few inches to accommodate the new ramp.

Personally, I think it is a bad idea. Your pin though - do what you want. Don't expect amazing results unless you are very skilled at wood/metal craft and restoration.

Agreed on all counts.
